Mount Redoubt volcano in Alaska rumbles again

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska's Mount Redoubt volcano is rumbling again.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory says a series of small earthquakes began occurring around the summit of the volcano Sunday and continued Monday. As a result, scientists have upgraded the volcano's alert status.
Redoubt, about 105 miles southwest of Anchorage, went through an eruptive period that led to major explosions earlier this year, including one that dusted Anchorage with ashfall.
The erupting volcano forced the Cook Inlet Pipeline Co. to remove millions of gallons of oil stored at the Drift River Terminal 22 miles away. Hundreds of airline flights also had to be canceled because of ash clouds this spring.
The last time Mount Redoubt had a similar period of activity was in late 1989 to spring 1990.

Along with the 5.8 earthquake in California and this volcano acting up...it would appear that there's some serious titanic plate activity going on...what are the locals saying?

Unlike Russia, I can see it from my back yard.

All joking aside, it is a routine thing for up here. It did some erupting a year ago, Id rather it cause some inconvience with moderate activity now, than to have a situation like Mt Novarupta. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novarupta

While an eruption is not imminent this is the thread I sarted to let folks know the last time.

Thanks...that was back before my time here {I'm sure that my Anniversary seems a lot longer to some and just like yesterday to me} anyway...I'm sure that you have your emergency evacuation plan all in place. And I thought living with a sneaky arsed tornado hitting at night was heinous...don't think that I could handle earthquakes and volcano's too!

Yeah, these can be inconvenient because of the potential ash fall. It makes for a difficult time for air travel. The KLM flt 867 situation is probably the biggest threat. Read this, and youll realize it would probably need a change of pants afterwards.

Earthquakes up here are fairly routine, I just hope I am not around for the next big one. I wasnt alive for the 64 earthquake but the stories I hear from survivors are fascinating.
That being said, I dont know how the lower 48ers do it with thier tornados. That concept scares the bejesus out of me.
