Bill Ayers is an unrepentant terrorist responsible for various bombings. He is also a friend of Barack Obama, who now dismisses Ayers as just “some guy who lives in my neighborhood” — albeit a guy who, along with his wife and fellow Weather Underground terrorist Bernardine Dohrn, hosted Obama’s political coming-out party at their home in 1995. In fact, Obama and Ayers had a close working relationship. They sat together on the board of the Woods Fund, a left-wing charity, and collaborated on an education “reform” project called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, begun in 1995 when an Ayers proposal won a huge foundation grant. Ayers ran the CAC’s operational arm; Obama chaired the board. Together, they were responsible for distributing over $100 million — with no discernible improvement in Chicago’s schools but great advantage for their ideological allies. This summer, after being assured of access, frequent National Review contributor Stanley Kurtz was barred from reviewing the CAC records housed at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where Ayers is a professor of education. As we went to press, the ban had been lifted after considerable public pressure. But the attempts to suppress this story continue. After a conservative group ran an ad attacking Obama’s association with Ayers, Obama asked the feds to investigate the group. And he says that Bush is trampling our civil liberties?

There is no story...

Barack Obama was 8 years old probably playing basketball when the Weather Underground was doing their thing.

Bill Ayers who once was a member in this group was tried in a court of law and acquitted of all charges.

Years later Bill Ayers became a respected businessman and was appointed to a business board of trustees.

Later Senator Obama was appointed to that same board.

Senator Obama publicly denounced Bill Ayers actions and affiliations of the past, but also said that at the time in his life that he met Bill Ayers, Bill Ayers was a respected businessman that conducted himself as a productive honest citizen.

I mean there's nothing untrue or wrong about any of this. People grow up, people have families, people change. There's no story here I can see.

You might have a point if Ayers had stopped his anti-american, anti-capitalist actions when he stopped working with the Weather Underground but he doesn't even make an attempt to appear apologetic. Now he's touting his socialist crap in schools and even worse, it's not just in college... He's influencing teachers at all grade levels so that his twisted ideology is even getting into the minds of 5 year olds. Bill Ayers is not changed and Obama knows it. The scary part is that it doesn't seem to bother him in the least. Kind of makes you wonder if he agrees.

The point zipped in one of your ears, and out the other. :D THE POINT was Ayers was a leftwing extremist bomber who was involved up to his neck in war on the US government, AND LATER BECAME OBAMA'S CLOSE FRIEND, MENTOR, COLLABORATOR AND CONFIDANT.

Bill Ayers who once was a member in this group was tried in a court of law and acquitted of all charges.

Ayers lucked out like crazy, and was let go only because of prosecutorial misconduct, but his record is crystal clear: (wiki)

Ayers became involved in the New Left and the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS).[5] He rose to national prominence as an SDS leader in 1968 and 1969. As head of an SDS regional group, the "Jesse James Gang", Ayers made decisive contributions to the Weatherman orientation toward militancy.[4]

The groups Ayers headed in Detroit, Michigan became one of the earliest gatherings of what became the Weatherman. Between the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago and the June 1969 SDS convention, Ayers became a prominent leader of the group, which arose as a result of a schism in SDS.[4]

"During that time his infatuation with street fighting grew and he developed a language of confrontational militancy that became more and more extreme over the year [1969]", former Weatherman member Cathy Wilkerson wrote in 2001 (who refers to the Weathermen's activity as "craziness"). Before this time, Ayers had become a roommate of and strong influence on Terry Robbins, who was two years younger and "came to idolize him", Wilkerson wrote. Robbins would later be killed while making a bomb.[6]

In June 1969, the Weatherman took control of the SDS at its national convention, where Ayers was elected "Education Secretary".[4]

Later in 1969, Ayers participated in planting a bomb at a statue dedicated to police casualties in the 1886 Haymarket Riot.[7] The blast broke almost 100 windows and blew pieces of the statue onto the nearby Kennedy Expressway.[8] (The statue was rebuilt and unveiled on May 4, 1970, and blown up again by other Weathermen on October 6, 1970.[9][8] Built yet again, the city posted a 24-hour police guard to prevent another blast.[8]) Ayers participated in the Days of Rage riot in Chicago in October 1969, and in December was at the "War Council" meeting in Flint, Michigan.

Larry Grathwohl, an FBI informant in the Weatherman group from the fall of 1969 to the spring of 1970, thought that Ayers, along with Bernardine Dohrn, were probably the two most authoritative people within the organization.[10]

[edit] Years underground
In 1970 he "went underground" with several associates after the Greenwich Village townhouse explosion, in which Weatherman member Ted Gold, Ayers' close friend Terry Robbins, and Ayers girlfriend, Oughton, were killed when a nail bomb (an anti-personnel device) that was under construction exploded. Kathy Boudin and Cathy Wilkerson survived the blast. Ayers was not facing criminal charges at the time, but the federal government later filed charges against him.[1]

In 2001 Ayers released a book, Fugitive Days, in which he discussed participating in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters in 1970, the Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972. Because of a water leak caused by the Pentagon bombing, aerial bombardments had to be halted for several days. Ayers writes:

Although the bomb that rocked the Pentagon was itsy-bitsy - weighing close to two pounds - it caused 'tens of thousands of dollars' of damage. The operation cost under $500, and no one was killed or even hurt. In that same time, the Pentagon spent tens of millions of dollars and dropped tens of thousands of pounds of explosives on Viet Nam, killing or wounding thousands of human beings, causing hundreds of millions of dollars of damage.[11]

He also said, however, that the book was partly fiction.[12]

While underground, he and fellow member Bernardine Dohrn married, and the two remained fugitives together, changing identities, jobs and locations. By 1976 or 1977, with federal charges against both fugitives dropped due to prosecutorial misconduct (see COINTELPRO), Ayers was ready to turn himself in to authorities, but Dohrn remained reluctant until after she gave birth to two sons, one born in 1977, the other in 1980. "He was sweet and patient, as he always is, to let me come to my senses on my own", she later said.[1] The couple turned themselves in in 1980.

Ayers and Dohrn later became legal guardians to the son of former Weathermen David Gilbert and Kathy Boudin after the boy's parents were convicted and sent to prison for their part in the Brinks Robbery of 1981.[12]

Years later Bill Ayers became a respected businessman and was appointed to a business board of trustees.

Later Senator Obama was appointed to that same board.

Did you even read what I posted??? Ayers wasn't a "businessman" - the board you are referring to was his and Obama's scam of $100 million from the Annenberg foundation to improve education in Chicago - they produced no results, but enriched a lot of their leftwing cronies. This is more evidence of Obama's inability to manage money or be successful outside of the sheltered academic coccoon of "affirmative action".

Senator Obama publicly denounced Bill Ayers actions and affiliations of the past

:D Well OF COURSE he made the pro forma statement after he was running for office - just like he did with Rev. Wright. That does nothing to wipe away the serious doubts people should have about him because of his lifetime of close associations with evil people, as well as his obvious bad judgement for forming such associations.

but also said that at the time in his life that he met Bill Ayers, Bill Ayers was a respected businessman that conducted himself as a productive honest citizen.

About the worst bald-faced lie ever posted here. Ayers was a leftwing, anti -american conspirator and bomber, he never was a "businessman", and ONLY the academy, which has an affinity for such persons, would have anything to do with him now.
