I don't think you are being harsh at all.  It is tough enough to build a new forum without the scum of the earth taking up bandwidth posting their crap.  If those "ads" had been present on the day that I signed up here, I would not have signed up at all.  I would have moved on to a board that didn't allow spam advertisements.
