Just to clarify ... the military does have armor, both on vehicles and a new version for body armor, that will stop .50 cal rounds ... however, they won't authorize its use by Border Patrol because 1) it's expensive, and 2) we don't want to appear to be militarizing the border. In the meantime, people die ...However, even that is misleading ... there are several hand-held weapons (.400 mag or 500 S&W) that have more stopping/penetrating power than the standard .50 cal ... due to increase velocity.
