Is McCain a war monger, or is he just going crazy in old age?

Hi Masher.....I enjoyed your summary on the background to the attack on the twin towers it certainly highlights the sort of differences in peoples perspective

You don't know what you're talking about. There was a debate within al qaeda about who to strike first - the "near enemy" (quasi-democratic middle east regimes, arab socialist regimes, secular arab regimes) or the "far enemy" - the U.S. Osama ben Laden argued, successfully, for the "far enemy". They didn't just happen to pick us. 9-11 was a carefully planned operation against a carefully chosen enemy. As a result the US attacked them where they were at the time - Afghanistan.

...interesting take on the process thanks for sharing that!

More appeaser cant. The US attacked Iraq because intelligence indicated they had nukes. This was the same regime that had attacked THREE neighboring countries, including the first IRBM attacks since WWII. That the Baathist Iraqi regime, which had already been responsible for MILLIONS of deaths would add this new dimension was untenable..

Yes our Government tried to sell this to us as well and to the credit of the French it was them that kept trying to tell us it was a load of bollox.. funny the Germans said the same thing too!..and the Italians..and the Saudis and the Russians and the Chinese and the Danish jeez they even knew (wiley little buggers the Danes!!) .... oh well. Shame no one listened to Hans Blix don't you think? It would have saved an awful lot of trouble and lives if only someone in authority had opened his report and read past the pretty picture on page 1...never mind its all history now! ;)

If there are any 12 year olds around you - have them explain the implications of that, I'm tired of typing..

....aawwww please don't stop I was enjoying that :D

The usual appeaser wholesale avoidance of reality - al qaeda infrastructure has been destroyed all over the world. The Taliban and Saddam overturned, and democracies set up in in iraq and afghanistan. What's left is a handful of bandits in both countries who manage to blow up some women and children. Euroweenies biitch when we've had to deal with dictatorships, then you STILL biitch when we liberate countries and set up democracies. You just biitch whatever happens, and from the sidelines...

You're right Masher the job is complete democracy is safe and all's right in the world....you believe that if it gives you comfort! ;)

So job done - when are the boys going home mate?

Intelligence gathering has almost always resulted in probabilistic determinations, not certainties. Hans Blix is not an intelligence expert, he had no more knowledge if they had WMDs than did you or I. He spent a lot of time in iraq with the iraqis playing hide-and-seek games with him.

I don't believe that McCain is either a war monger or insane. Given his age and some of his famous(infamous) outbursts, it's posible that he is in the beginning stages of alzheimers's.

Since R. Reagan spent the last couple of years of his presidency in full blown alzheimer's, I'm not sure what kind of a liability that might be. If his wife visits mystics and soothsayers, we may have another Reagan type revolution on our hands.

Now my predictions for the Nov. 4 election. We will elect an early stage dementia republican president saddled with a veto proof democratic congress angry with a large part of it's own base for refusing to vote for a mulatto for president.

Bread and circus's was the Roman solution. At least we're being fed and entertained.

Pure defamation - you are not a physician and have no qualifications to make medical diagnoses - Obama has forgotten who he's talking to - you Obamoonies better come up with a new game plan - the "McCain is old" mantra is getting, well, old.

Reagan has absolutely nothing to do with McCain.

Nobody is interested in your amateur medical diagnoses.

The people who are in the war are VOLUNTEERS. What would you say if I said the US needs more wheat, "go out and grow it"? :)

First of all, "the U.S." doesn't need anything. The United States is comprised of the individuals that make it up, and it doesn't exist without those individuals. If those individuals have needs, they need to take care of themselves, instead of empowering other men to steal from me.

And that's what you're doing. You're voting to empower people who will tax me, incur more debt that I will be held responsible for, and inflate the currency thereby lowering its value for myself and everyone else. Here's the deal, you leave me alone, and I won't point out the fact that you're a hypocrite.

That was a metaphor to show silly was your demand that I enlist, Einstein. :)

At this point in time, you live in a democratic polity - deal with it.

I kinda wonder what makes you think I'm an Obamoony.(is that some sort of new designation?) I have no intention of voting for Obama. And yea, McCain is getting old.

Both your name and your posts lead me to believe that you take yourself waaayyyy too seriouly.

And you ain't? Who did you vote for then?

This is a representative republic the individual has rights against that republic you also enjoy right now. The mere words you're typing on keyboards would get you beheaded or even worse in some countries without such unalienable rights.

What in the world...let's pay attention!

I think it's clear that John McCain is now John McBush but with a little more war, invasion, our military can control the world outlook.

It does something to your mind to be in POW camp for an extended period of time... talk about delayed stress syndrome. Soldiers free in the field suffer from this and it's hard to believe anyone can't see this taking it's toll on John McCain.

Add to that the age issue. He was much, much sharper when you look back even just to the last time he ran. He's slipping but fighting to hide it... but it's not hard to see. It's sad to think how much the forgetfulness and anger and problems forming his own decisions will naturally progress as he deteriorates through his mid to late 70's.

It's true what you said about Reagan. At the time I was pissed when he kept saying he couldn't remember allowing Arms for Hostages with Iran... but later on we found out why the was most likely true.

Being optimistic I see the election differently though. Obama will win mainly due to Independents and new young voters on their intense dislike of any continuation of Bush type policy (Iraq, Economy, gas, a combination) and the Dems will pick up seats... but maybe not veto proof amounts. But then that point will be moot anyway I guess.

I agree. Obama will get the youthful and thus relatively undereducated vote, he'll also get the independents who vote more often for American Idol than they do American elections.

I think McCain has every shot against Obama. Barack has some issues.

Actually, Obama's voters have been on average better educated then McCain's voters. However, that may be partly because better educated people generally lean left, due to the fact that they've been educated.
