The Vice President should be one of the leaders of the President's party and keep doing his job. So, while President Kennedy was alive, Lyndon Johnson should have continued as Senate Majority Leader.

The incompetence of the Founding Fodder was proved by the fact that they originally had the losing candidate in the election becoming Vice President. They deserve no respect whatsoever, because can you imagine Hillary as Trump's VP and Trump as Biden's.
