Steve, one reason that he will not get the death penalty from the US is that he hasn't committed treason. That cannot be committed by a foreign national, a person must be a citizen of the nation charging him with treason. Assange is an Australian national as far as I have seen he has never even been in the US. The best that the US could do is to charge him with espionage and that doesn't often carry the death penalty. Besides the Australian government is already making noise. We no longer have the clout to execute foreign nationals just because we want to and from what the Aussie politicians are saying, if we did it would put a very big strain on our relations with them. The US citizen who did commit anything close to treason is so far, just going to get life as it should be. You may or may not agree with that but it is the law. But the whole incident is much bigger than simply liberals vs conservatives.

Sentencing foreigner nationals to death only happens on prime time dramas but not in real life.
