It's time we face the fact that power-distribution is dead-tech....even though some are more "modern", than others. Moving, from PA, to CO (back in '75), it was always so surprising to see (pretty much) a dearth of power-lines, throughout Boulder County. A majority of those lines were buried....something Florida (and, too-much of the Southeast) have yet to discover.

.

We're already half-way to  the future....independent-generation!!! Currently, standby-power is the default, for emergencies; some are designed to hook-up to natural-gas lines.

.

If we go one-more-step, and "fuel" these with solid hydrogen fuel-cells....that, eventually would be available, by the case, at your local Walmart....kinda the same way people purchase cases of lubrication-oils. Ya' load-up your generator's magazine with fuel-cells, and your generator does the rest; i.e. ejects spent fuel-cells / loads replacements....and, "flags" you when your fuel-cells magazine hits whatever maintenance-level you decide.
