Where in the US Constitution is the federal government authorized to offer a public option? As for a non-profit insurance option in the private sector, feel free to start one. There is absolutely nothing in the Constitution preventing the private sector from creating a non-profit insurance company to compete against all the for-profit insurance companies. And if you really believe that a non-profit insurance company would do well, why don't any exist?
