I'd not heard that recycling was supposed to save energy (apparently for obvious reasons).  sounds like yet another liberal meme to attempt to justify their agenda.  I had heard that its cheaper to recycle aluminum than find the minerals etc needed to make it new.  also it saved landfills as you can recycle some things to good effect (plastic, glass, metals paper not so much).
