Polygamy is against the law. Why? Because the state only recognizes two people being married to each other. A person may only be married to one other person.


If a religious group wants to have religious ceremonies that are not civil marriages (that are not recognized by the state), but are considered marriages by the group, what can the state do? The thing is the 'marriages' would not have the force of law.


Adults may have sex with as many people as they want. Adults may father/mother as many kids as they want by as many partners as they want. There are no laws against these things.
