anyone see a problem here ?

I knew it was bad. I did not realize it was that bad.
something has got to give.

This year’s Index of Dependence on Government presented startling findings about the sharp increase of Americans who rely on the federal government for housing, food, income, student aid or other assistance. (See last week’s chart.)

Another eye-popping number was the percentage of Americans who don’t pay income taxes, which now accounts for nearly half of the U.S. population. Meanwhile, most of that population receives generous federal benefits.

“One of the most worrying trends in the Index is the coinciding growth in the non-taxpaying public,” wrote Heritage authors Bill Beach and Patrick Tyrrell. “The percentage of people who do not pay federal income taxes, and who are not claimed as dependents by someone who does pay them, jumped from 14.8 percent in 1984 to 49.5 percent in 2009.”

That means 151.7 million Americans paid nothing in 2009. By comparison, 34.8 million tax filers paid no taxes in 1984.

With the earned income credit some actually get back thousands more than they paid into federal income tax, so they are not just not paying taxes they are getting thousands of dollars off those "evil rich"

35-45 billion but that was 2004. it gets increased all they time including in Porkulus.

No wonder we are in so much trouble. And I thought Obama said that EVERYONE had to have some skin in the game.

Socialism work's great until you run out of other people's money.

Wanna hear something else that's bad? Our REAL debt, if you count unfunded liabilities is around 211 trillion.

somebody remind me how the po folks are having all their money transferred to the rich again ?

Now in the last seven years, we've had the highest corporate profit ever in American history. Highest corporate profit. We've had the highest productivity. The American worker has produced more per person than in any time. But it hasn't been shared. And that's the problem. Because we have been guided by a Republican administration who believes in this simplistic notion, that people who have wealth are entitled to keep it. And they have an antipathy towards means of redistributing wealth. And, they may be able to sustain that for a while but it doesn't work in the long run.
According to Marxism, profit is nothing more than unpaid wages. The only way to make a profit is by screwing over your employees by withholding earnings that are rightfully theirs. In order for the workers to reclaim what is rightfully theirs, they must use government to forcibly redistribute the wealth from the rich back to the poor.

You don't want to be one of those neanderthals who thinks people who earn their wealth have a right to keep it, that's just ridiculous. It's obvious to any "rational" person they only acquired their money by taking advantage of others, so it's only "fair" that their ill gotten gains be returned to the rightful owners. If you disagree, I'll hurl insults at you until you shut up, because that's how Leftists "win" arguments.

I'm new here....still learning who is who. I'm sure this is a "devil's advocate", "tongue in cheek" post... right?

The portion of my reply that you quoted is an actual part of Marxist ideology. When a worker is hired for $5 an hour to produce $20 an hour worth of goods, Marx called the $15 that wasn't paid to the employee "surplus value" and argued that it was unpaid wages and rightfully belonged to the employee. The employer was only capable of accumulating the surplus value because he owned the factory where the work took place - hence the need to abolish private property and have the means of production be publicly owned. By abolishing private property and having the means of production under public ownership, the workers could finally be paid the full amount that was otherwise being "stolen" from them by the employer.

Just so you know, I'm a Capitalist, not a Marxist, I'm just well versed on the subject.

It most certainly is. And welcome...

I wonder. Does the leftist consider this "fairness?" Based on the actions and words from many leftists including Big Ears, it is apparent they really think it is fair that half the population pay no income taxes.

I would like to know WHO was responsible for this situation. Of course, it is the stinking progressive politicians in both parties.

To think that as recent as 1969, 12% of Americans paid no income taxes boggles the mind.

Reagan actually got more American's paying income tax for most of his two terms as is evidenced in the graph.

The Tax Reform Act of 1986 however did start increasing the percentage not paying income tax.
