but defends the annexation of Crimea, and doesn't even mention falling oil prices.

Oh, and his international opponents are like Hitler.

President Vladimir Putin vowed to punish speculators attacking the ruble with "harsh" measures in a defiant speech that reached into Russian history to defend his annexation of Crimea and compared his international opponents with Adolf Hitler.

Sounds to me like the Russian leader is in trouble, as is his country. What do you think?

Not only Putin but the Russian people blame the West for its economic problems. Sanctions are doing great harm to the economy and Russian borders are occupied by its enemy NATO. It is dangerous making Russian feel insecure. That what happen to Germany before WW2.
The fall in the oil price would not affect Russia as much as countries in the Middle East.

Would it be dangerous to stand idly by while Russia invades its neighbors?

It would be tos tand by while Russia or anyone else invades its Neighbours. But if the people invaded want them to remain as in Crimea there is nothing we can do. We can not save Scotland from English rule if the majority of Scots want them to remain.

and the rest of Ukraine, do they want the Russians there as well?

If so, why not just have an election and decide the issue that way, rather than by force of arms?

I think the Ukraine government refused to had an election for self rule for Crimea while in power. Elections since have shown they want to be part of Russia. I do not think this applies to the rest of Ukraine.

It's not assured with military intervention, either, as we've found out first hand a couple of times.
Yeah as russia discovered in afghanistan. But thisnis different in that we were not annexing real estate for ourselves and ukraine is a far easier target.

as long as they can put up with those pesky economic sanctions.

Modern warfare between powerful nations is no longer military, but economic. Russia is getting whomped in the new warfare.
