The people's republic of Eugene
Just got finished watching the FOX news republican debate.

I am not as much a Romney fan this time around as I was last time but I think he probably won it.

I liked Rick Santorum best but I don't think he has a chance in hell

I liked huntsman the very least followed very very closely by Pawlenty, I even liked them both less than Newt who was full of spit fire with the moderators. I never thought Id like someone less than Newt!

Ron Paul is crazy! but I like some of his ideas, I still could never vote for him I dont think just based on his views of Israel and Iran.

I think Michelle did fine but hard to picture her getting the nom or defeating obama.

Herman was good, I wish more took him seriously but I don't see him having much of a shot.

I could be happy with any of them winning but huntsman, pawlenty and newt are my by far least favs

Santorum, Herman and Michelle were my favs,

but I bet Romney gets the nod if its between the 8

If you watched it, tell me what you think... who were you liking the best and least

Issues and the ability to win against obama

I hate newt the person, really I do but he has some good ideas, i just don't personally like him though as a president his ideas would probably be good ones mostly

I like Michelle personally and admire the kind of person she is but I don't think she could win even though I liked her answers to most things

I really wanted romney badly the last time around but his ideas on cap and trade left me disliking him. Though he had great ideas that he shared tonight, and would probably be ok, I do not like that cap and trade stuff.

I really liked Herman but he doesn't seem likely to win.. I would vote for him

Pawlenty made me physically sick and so did huntsman. They both seemed like snakes. Id really be un happy if I had to vote for either of them just to try and get rid of obama

Ron Paul has some ideas I like but I think he is a closet jew hater and I think he is totally clueless on Iran. I actually think I would rather keep obama over Ron Paul.

Santorum had ideas I most agreed with but he is too extreme and probably could not win against obama

So mostly I am looking at who can win but also who I can agree with the most.

My two choices out of that lot are Huntsman and Ron Paul.

Huntsman because he has walked the walk. He is a moderate conservative with high integrity and experience as a governor and experience with foreign affairs, most especially with China.

Ron Paul because he is a man of integrity. He is an isolationist and a throwback to the 19th century, but he is what he is. He does not wander from pillar to post to whorehouse doorway.

Romney I despise as a blood sucker who made money by scavenging through businesses in America's heartland and stripping the carcasses and throwing good people out of work instead of fixing the problems.

Newt I do not trust as a man. I consider him to be a huckster through and through.

The religious fundamentalists are, in my opinion, only interested in turning America into a theocracy and ruling America from the Pulpit. These include Perry, Bachman, and Santorum. I consider them to be downright dangerous for America.

Then there are the minor candidates who just do not have the experience or ability. Pawlenty, Cain, Trump, and the rest.

The Republicans just have no tier 1 candidates.

Romney wins the debate..because he did not lose it...and has a good lead and huge money lead...His Argument on why the health care plan was best for the state...is basically...the same one on why people said it was good for the country..but fact is, those who are voting on that issue...already are not voting for him.

Bachmann...called out for what she is...I stand up for what I believe...I don't compromise and I don't get anything done... ( ps she is a hypocrite but that issue will come up later if she sticks around long enough to face Obama...take the stim money, ask for more...then attack it, attack farm subsidies but take them,,,ext ext. Last I checked there is no cap and trade in MN..so I believe she is wrong on that..Pawlenty basically had them look into the idea and killed it. I don't recall him ever saying the era of small goverment is over...and if he did its clearly not in the context of what he did in this state...lose with the facts, no record of getting anything done...of course her followers don't care about facts so who knows maybe she does not get as hurt as she should from this.

TPaw...I hate him, but he looked much better today then he has in the past . I view him as gaining the most I think from the debate.

Cain.. sounds like that guy that gets you to buy the first car you looked at, and get home and think ..what the hell did we just do? Fancy sales talk, nothing to back it up. Talks about the 1st..yet clearly what he called on before was against it...Fringe anti muslim nut...he will go away. he did nothing to make himself credible today.

Santorim...what your still here? he is going no place and did do anything to change that today.

Newt...your a bitter man , very angry, and you talked about policy that 80% of Americans don't know about let alone are going to vote on...this is why you can't win and your staff left.

Huntsman...I could almost vote for you...your sane...your moderate, and you could work with both sides...the Republicans have no need or disire for your rational moderate ideas and thinking...you can't win...though if you did..you would have one of the best shots at winning against obama as people got to know you more.

Paul...you have your people...they are loyal...thats it and your not going to win...sorry ...as always he stock to his guns today even when they had him just running into a wall...he ran full speed. I respect paul, but he has zero clue what he is talking about on Iran.

the rent is to damn high guy...yea he was not there...but can we all just pretend for a min he was...:)

I don't think Ron Paul is a "closet" anything! In fact, I think he is the only honest and courageous person in today's debate.
I don't like many of his ideas, but he doesn't change his mind just to please people, and he stands his ground.

And he is right about the military, and that every one of those other candidates would repeat the mascarade of Bush/Cheney and take us into a war with Iran.

Huntsman wasn't too bad. . . Bachman lost me during her introduction. . .nothing but tea party extremist propaganda.

Cain is a used car sales man. . . even if he sells pizzas!

Santorum is a freak

Gingrich was impressive in the way he held his own and used straight talk. ..the problem is, what does "straight talk" mean coming from him? It will be a different song in a couple of days!

What amazed me the most is that EVERYONE of them stated that they would refuse to raise the taxes ever, and would have refused any balanced compromised with Obama and the Dems EVEN if it had been a 10 to 1 ($10 in spending cuts for every $1 in revenue increase). . .That is the definition of brain washing and non-sense partisanship to me!

It's clear that none of them is willing to demonstrate that they have integrity and/or brain.

All these Republicans are locked into the Grover Norquist nonsense about no new taxes, ever, ever, ever.

For some reason not clear to me, Republicans believe the government does nothing for them and its all about welfare queens in their Escalades defrauding the rest of us.

I have noticed though that when it comes time for the government checks, Michelle Bachman has no trouble getting her nose into the trough. She hauls away more loot than a dozen welfare queens, and she is proud of it! But of course,, she deserves it.

I agree with you about Newt! He was impressive in the way he held his own. I personally do not like or trust the man but he did well in the debates last night.

I wouldn't vote for Ron Paul just based on his willingness to let Iran get nukes. I would seriously rather have obama over him just based on that alone. As for his feelings about Israel, it was nothing he said last night. It is comments he has made over the last ten years that have concerned me.

Huntsman actually made my skin crawl, He was disgusting and so was Pawlenty. At one time I thought I liked pawlenty but thats been fixed :)

I really liked Herman :) I wish more did.

Thanks for your input :)

Romney is a business man, he does what businessman do. Really he would be the best to fix the economy I think but grr on that cap and trade stuff I honestly do not know how well Romney would do in other areas of being president but economy wise, I think he is the best in the list.

Pawlenty has far more experience than obama had why do you not think he is qualified. Hell cain and trump blow obama away in qualifications too. obama is the least qualified person to get the job probably in American history.

I totally understand your feelings on the regions fundamentalists. I liked Santorum and Michelle but they are both highly unlikely to win so you wont have to worry about that :)

Yeah, Romney won it but he didn't knock any balls out of the park.

You and I agree on the ron paul thing

ewww! on huntsman, he actually made my skin crawl. What a snake!!! I thought I liked pawlenty at least a little but it turns out he makes my skin crawl too :)

clearly you have not payed attention..they know it does...they just don't like paying for it..so they spend like crazy, cut taxes for the rich, and then when not in power all of the sudden have a come to jesus moment and scream about spending and debt...then they get power...and they go back to what they did...not what they said.

they know it can do good, look at bachmann and all the Stim programs she asked for for jobs...while she attacked the Stim and said it created no jobs...

Though Ron Paul represents the opinion of the most American people, he has no chance. Because this is a covert totalitarian country, the tyrant controls the election machine.

Everyone Thinks Ron Paul is Right

Former CIA specialist and contributor to The American Conservative Philip Giraldi had some interesting insights today into just how much headway Ron Paul and his message is making with a broad spectrum of Americans:

“I had two interesting experiences over the weekend, totally unrelated to the non-event of Hurricane Irene, which only dropped an inch of rain on northern Virginia. On Friday I went to dinner with a mixed group consisting of the women who are in my wife’s quilting group together with their husbands. All of the men were in their late fifties-early sixties and everyone but me and my wife was an evangelical Christian… Two of the men have been prominent in local Democratic Party circles and the remainder vote Republican. All agreed, to my surprise, that the US economy is broken and that it is the result of the wars and globalism that have marched together hand in hand over the past ten years. They also all agreed, even when they do not support specific policies, that Ron Paul is the only honest man running for the presidency. Which is not to say they all would vote for him, but the approval rating was 100%.”

Mr. Giraldi then moves on to day two of his weekend:

“On Saturday we had a reunion lunch with the CIA Rome Station class of 1980. The last time the whole group was together was shortly before the 2008 election, when everyone but me and my wife indicated that they would be voting for McCain-Palin. This time around it was different… I was kidded about my Ron Paul bumper sticker but everyone was quick to add seriously that Paul was the only honest man running, that he had predicted the economic collapse, and that his message has been consistent. They even agreed emphatically when I quoted Paul’s pledge to bring the troops home from overseas on the day after he is elected. This is coming from Cold Warriors, mind you, men and women who spent careers doing without question whatever their government asked them to do. Again, no one said they would vote for Ron Paul but nor did anyone say they would not.”

Giraldi concludes:

“Which is all to suggest that maybe something is actually going on in the body politic, that people are willing to listen to Ron Paul even though four years ago they would have thought such an idea ridiculous. And he has a passionate base of supporters. Do you remember the scene in the Godfather where Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) sees a Cuban rebel die for his cause and realizes that the insurgents just might win? Recent opinion polls seem to be saying the same thing. Whether or not Dr. Paul can actually win the presidency, his ideas about the state of the US economy and Washington’s catastrophic foreign policy have reached the mainstream and are resonating.”
