Should we offer a "Path to Citizenship" to illegal aliens already here?

There are stories coming out, that Congress is considering bills that offer a "Path to Citizenship" (a.k.a. "amnesty") to the illegal aliens who are already here, and let them stay in the country to work until they get it. Left unsaid, is the fact that millions more foreigners have applied for visas, followed the rules, and are also hoping for citizenship... but remain outside the country. Such a bill was also proposed years go, in 2005/6.

Is it a good idea to do this?

Keep in mind the one thing the illegal aliens have in common. Whether they are Mexican citizens who walked across the border, Norwegian college students who overstayed their visa, Russian sailors who shinnied down the anchor chain in New York, or Saudis who took a little vacation from the diplomatic mission, they are all people who have shown a disdain for American law, and have demonstrated that they are happy to break it.

This is who you want to keep in this country and make American citizens? While keeping out the people who respected U.S. law, obeyed it, and followed the rules?

We tried amnesty about 25 years ago, and the result was that the stream of illegals reached flood stage.

While the idea may sound humanitarian and wonderful, the fact is that amnesty doesn't work, has been proven not to work, and should not be tried again.

The best approach is to enforce the law against hiring illegals, make them go back home and apply for legal status from their home countries, and then only admit the ones who can pass a background check, and only as many as we can absorb and acculturate.

As for the ones who have committed other crimes besides simply ignoring out national sovereignty, we need to make sure that they wind up in jail in their native lands. If their governments refuse to take back their own criminals and mete out appropriate punishment, then it's time to just say no to immigrants from that country.

you know who else distanes American law? Americans,. daily...I am pretty sure I broke a few laws already today...

But keep living in your dream word where super police run around asking for evryone ( who is not white) for there papers to Deport them...

Yep that is exactly what the law in AZ says..........Have you actually read the bill? It is a very short bill, that I myself read last week, because I didn't want to be a hypocrite for ragging on the President for having not. They aren't looking for people based on color. Just the opposite they are continuing to do their very difficult job, and when they see suspicious activity they investigate. If they do pull you over they will ask them for a D.L. and ins/registration just like every other person in the world. As a white man in the south I have been pulled over a couple times by non white officers. Were they profiling me, I seriously doubt it. If you are not here illegally you don't have anything to worry about, if your not guilty of illegal activity you have nothing to worry about. I see this as another opportunity to play the race card! It's not working though an overwhelming majority of Americans support this bill in AZ, and pray that their states will follow behind AZ.

as a white man in the south, how many times where you asked to prove your a Citizen? Zero
done
end of story

How many times where you pulled over for Driving while White? None

you think being white is the same as Hispanic or black, and that somehow the cops don't treat you different...thats sad...it would be nice if true but most people know thats not the facts of life.

Conservatives are always praising Ronald Reagan as the anointed fearless leader. Perhaps this would be a good time to think why. Maybe he had a good reason for amnesty.

Or maybe he wasn't even a Conservative but really a scofflaw Pinko Commy Socialist!

OOOOOH NOOOOOOOO!

Well since clearly your liberal mind set will not allow you to comprehend that the main point of my comment was that the officers aren't doing anything "racist". They are simply doing their jobs and in the process the job of the federal government. However, as with most liberals you choose to focus on color. If you must know though I live in an area where there are plenty of black officers and a rather large black population. The point was I don't blame my getting pulled over on the "racist black cop." Your making the assumption that anyone that isn't hispanic or black is inherently racist.

guess what black cops, still can be racist , even against blacks...shocker I know

next, you can follow the law...and do it in a racist way. if 10 speeders pass my cop car, and I let them just go, and a 11th driven by a different race goes past , maybe even slower but still illegaly speeding and I pull over...I followed the law...and I was racist...see how that works?

Now how many white people do you think will have the law "followed" and asked to prove they are here legaly...now how many Legal Hispanics....

You can A choose to say that yes it will be used against one race more then the other by alot

or B...say you are ignorant

For starters your assuming that they are just gonna get pulled over for being hispanic or black. If they are breaking a law it doesn't matter what color they are...does it? The part that seems to be left out here is that there has to be reasonable suspicion or a law broken. If your a legal citizen do you really have anything to worry about? Just think how many illegal moochers we will be able to remove from the government teet!

I think you are missing his point.

The point is two fold. First: No matter how gung ho any particular State might want to get... immigration policy IS Federal Jurisdiction not state.

Secondly and probably more importantly the complaint is not about getting the Mexicans without papers. It's about all of the 100% Americans that just happen to look kind of Latino that have to constantly carry their papers around when no other race in that state does and put up with the ongoing "show me your papers harassment".

Like I said before. If someone said... Just all people with German sounding names or that have stereotypical German features have submit to being carded more than everyone else... I'd be against that. So to be consistent and not just self serving I have no choice but to be against the proposed (call it whatever you like) profiling law in Arizona.

According to Sheriff Joe Arpaio:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio: When you have a legitimate contact during law enforcement operations, you should be able to ask for identification which law enforcement does anyway on a daily basis. You ask for ID and you see if that person is here illegally by checking out the immigration status of the person. We don't go around picking people off the streets because they look like they're from another country just because of their race

What's wrong with that? After the police have stopped someone for cause, they ask for ID. They then find out if the detainee is here legally or not.

I could see where stopping people at random looking for illegals would be a violation of civil liberties. Asking for ID after someone is stopped? Don't they do that anyway?

What's wrong with doing a search to see if the person already under suspicion for something else is an illegal alien?

He agreed to do it if congress agreed to protect the borders and take it seriously. He should have known they were lying to him.

they will say the same thing again, just do it and this time we really will protect the borders but they will be lying again.

I'm not missing the point at all. Again they aren't going to be walking around see a person that looks Hispanic, and then walk up to them asking to see the papers. Read the law. As i stated earlier it is a quick read, here is your chance to go further than the Obama or Holder.
