Social Security is supposed to have cost of living adjustments once a year. There has not been a change payments in over two years. The first year, the powers that be, stated that there was no rise in the cost of living (using their "formula"). This last year, there was no increase because, "government cannot afford it."
There use of the "formula", ignores the fact that gasoline prices skyrocketed, the cost of my electricity bill is up over 50%, auto insurance, homeowners insurance, food prices, etc. etc. have all increased.
Who makes the determination that social security payments are not going to increase? Not the Democrats...they are in favor of such C.O.L increases.
That leaves the Republicans. I have voted for Republicans upon occasion, usually because of their pro-second amendment stand. However, I will never vote for a Republican ever again, for the rest of my life. And I encourage other seniors to do the same. They are really good at coming up with "formulas".

The results of depending on government to take care of you, borders on the hilarious sometimes... or it would if the results weren't always so sad.

You got my support! I don't even understand how "average" people in America can believe that any Republican policy can benefit them or the country! Even when they are not in the White House they manage to screw up our economy!

Looks what's happening now! EVERY economist knows that cutting spending, without raising revenue will only handicap the job market even more! EVERY economist knows that spending cuts on the poor and middle class will lead to less demand, therefore less production, therefore less jobs!

And yet. . .they are so proud of their achievement that leads straight to another recession!

You are so silly! Government is not funding social security. . .we are, we have been with our contribution, and our employers have been with their contributions.

The only thing that made it "bad" is that our government (much before Obama, by the way) decided to "borrow" the social security funds.

Get a life!

We have been funding government with our (carefully misnamed) "contributions". And government has been funding Social Security.

Why else do you think it has been so poorly run?

Lets see....our nation is about to implode due to decades of progressive policies YOU love and advocate. Europe is burning down from a more advanced socialist condition. We are in recession headed for depression. High unemployment and a dreadful housing market continue the hurt most Americans. The world wants to remove the US dollar as the reserve currency. All while Obummer plans his big b-day bash....

And...our resident socialist geezer is crying about his SS check. Is it any wonder our nation is in decline when people like this are walking around?

Re: Social Security-Cost of living

Thats why i Voted Out the Democrats because of the Obama Admin. I warned Obama what i was gonna do if my SSI didnt go up. So i got a letter it wasnt going up. Now those Democrats are unemployed because they failed to take care of us as promised.

So. . . you continue to be so adamant against "big government" and against "entitlements" and against any Democrats who try to protect the poor, and YOU are one of the people living on less than $800 a month?

Okay, I rest my case: This is the perfect exemple of tea party addicted to "slogans" and propaganda who do not understand what they are talking about!

This post is the equivalent of the famous poster "Keep the government out of my Medicare!"

I think we should publish it for the whole world to see!

Re: Social Security-Cost of living

Ask our buddy Comrade Stalin what did the Russians fight for when Lennin spoke? Before the soviet union was born people were hungry, poor and jobless. Lennin spoke out a new revolution,,They threw out the King and Queen and the Soviet Union was born. This is what the Tea Party is doing, Simalar to the 1917 Soviet revolution.

You are exactly right. We, the wage earners, have been funding government with SS because they took it from us. SS was supposed to go in a trust fund. It was not meant to fund the government. They spent any excess we contributed and gave us an IOU as Treasury bonds. As OpenMind says, we the wage earners are funding SS, not the government.

Why else do you think it has been so poorly run?
Because the government is shortsighted. They spent our future and put it into the national debt. Those bastards. We want our Social Security back into a trust fund that can't be raided.

Except that the 1917 Russian Revolution ushered in a very big (HUGE) government with overbearing regulation, forced wealth redistribution, and central control of everything.

But the TEA Party is trying to get rid of one.

Yeah. Lets privatize it. I am sure the bankers who caused the current recession would be happy to take on the job of managing social security...or maybe Bernie Madoff would take on the job. Then there would be no issue with "poorly run".

Poorly run (mismanaged), hell! both Dem's and republicans spent the social security. Dem's on social projects, Education, etc., republicans on defense spending (3 billion a week in Iraq?).

The Tea Party will elect a Republican to look after seniors and the disabled. We shouldnt go back to those dog days in the 1800s when you retire youre sent to a home to die.

You're kidding, right? The Republicans don't give a damn about the seniors, except as a pool of voters, and even then, they just get the dumbest, less educated among seniors to believe propaganda and lies, and manifeste by holding clever signs like "keep the government out of my medicare!"

I really am starting to feel sorry for you! You seem so out of touch with any kind of reality!
