RNC spent lavishly at Reagan Museum shop, liquor store
"Show people tend to treat their finances like their dentistry," Dick Cavett once said. "They assume the man handling it knows what he is doing." Unfortunately for RNC chairman Michael Steele, very few Republicans are probably thinking that about him this week.
The RNC was revealed by The Daily Caller to have incurred thousands of dollars in expenses at a bondage-themed nightclub that features topless lesbian dancers, as well as other lavish escapades in its trip southern California last month.
And that's not the end of the Republican Party's troubles.
Gawker reports that while "digging around the itemized disbursements of the Republican National Committee in search of lesbians, we found a couple trips marked 'office supplies' that are both wonderful (and wasteful?) in very different ways."
Records show that the RNC, chaired by Michael Steele, last month spent thousands at the Ronald Reagan Museum Store in southern California's Simi Valley, as well as hundreds at a liquor store in Capitol Hill.
Alex Pareene quipped that the museum shop expense, which added up to $2,200, must have been "the prelude to a night at the lesbian bondage nightclub," as it was on the same day as the trip to the West Hollywood bar.
Current best-sellers at the store include the conservative icon's "unabridged" diaries and a crystal bow pave pin that's colored red, white and blue.
"They apparently needed a little bit more of whatever the hell they bought there, because on 2/18 they went back to spend another $215," Pareene noted.
The filings show that the RNC also spent $400 in two trips to the Capitol Hill store Congressional Liquors.
"A wet office is a happy office," joked Pareene, "so we do not begrudge the RNC their twice-monthly booze runs, but what does $2,424 even get you from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation Museum Store?"
