Schiff represents California in the Senate, but to serve in the Senate, he cannot be expected to commute from California, so he also has a residence in Maryland, which is in commuting distance with his job. I really doubt that he is breaking any laws to declare both place his permanent residence, because both are necessary to him to fulfil the requirements of his job. I am pretty sure that Trump does not have a copy of Schiff's mortgages.

What congressmen need to work out is whether or not they should be able to claim special mortgage rate rules for themselves when claiming two primary residencies. Right now, there are no special rules for congressmen that allow them discounts on rates for being congressmen. Lying to get a lower rate on a mortgage is a crime and we all know what Tish James did to Trump for his alleged mortgage fraud crime.
