American education standards are far below the standards of Western Europe, Canada, Taiwan, Japan and many other places and turning it over entirely to the states will lower the standards even more. People who attend private schools have wealthier parents. There are certainly problems with education in this country, such as schools in wealthy areas getting up to four times the funding per student as students in poor communities.

Private school do not have to have the same standards for teachers as public schools, and teachers are paid much less by private schools and rarely have any pension fund, union representation or money made available to earn higher degrees.
