1. ....even in this state, the president is firing off lies and drawing up scams at his usual prodigious rate. It is so fundamental to his character that no brush with serious illness could hope to deprive him of its dark utility. He is desperate to demonstrate that his condition is not as bad as his treatment regimen indicates, a regimen that began, as far as we know, with Regeneron's monoclonal antibodies, added the antiviral remdesivir, and now features dexamethasone, a steroid normally reserved for treating serious cases of COVID-19. His apparatchiks are pulling out all the stops, with all the tradecraft we've come to expect from this passel of stumbling fools, to show that Mr. Trump is looking very strongly at the virus, and it hasn't stopped him from working very hard on behalf of the American people....

2. Ironically, the harshest criticisms of the president "of lies and cheap scams" came from two of those spineless GOP apparatchiks.

During the US President's 2018 meeting with Kim Jong Un in Singapore, Mike Pompeo passed Bolton a note saying Trump was "so full of shXt".

During the 2016 primaries, Latino GOP Senator Marco Rubio called Trump a con artist: "I would prefer not to get into a fight with other Republicans. But I would much more prefer not to turn over the party to a con artist like Donald Trump ... If you're a Republican, and you don't want your party taken over by a con artist like Donald Trump, unite behind us."
