Lots of countries are bristling with nukes - the US had a monopoly for a few years after WWII - if it wanted hegemony, that would have been the time to get it. The idea is preposterous now.

Most educated americans know the entire history of the conflict, going back to the british league of nations mandate - they aren't "kept in the dark".

Want to debate the history of the ownership of that piece of turf? I doubt it. The russian in South Ossetia are essentially colonists - especially the russian mafia likes it as a place to operate their rackets out of.
