There are millions of poor people starving in Afghanistan as a result of the US withdrawal and the Taliban takeover. How sad. There are no friendly officials remaining in Afghanistan so the US has to send hundreds of millions of US dollars to the greedy terrorist thugs to try to help the poor people. Greedy terrorist thugs do not help people, they help themselves, just like wicked sinners the world over also do.

Hundreds of Afghan men gather to apply for the humanitarian aid in Qala-e-Naw, Afghanistan, Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021. In a statement Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022, the White House announced $308 million in additional humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan, offering new aid to the country as it edges toward a humanitarian crisis since the Taliban takeover nearly five months earlier.

The US is providing $308 million in humanitarian aid for the people of Afghanistan, the National Security Council announced Tuesday, as well as additional Covid-19 vaccine doses.

The humanitarian assistance and vaccines come months after the US completed its military withdrawal from the country. The Biden administration has also faced pressure to take action as the country faces a dire humanitarian crisis.

“The new humanitarian assistance by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will directly flow through independent humanitarian organizations and help provide lifesaving protection and shelter, essential health care, winterization assistance, emergency food aid, water, sanitation, and hygiene services in response to the growing humanitarian needs exacerbated by COVID-19 and healthcare shortages, drought, malnutrition, and the winter season,” NSC spokesperson Emily Horne said in a statement.

The US will also provide one million additional Covid-19 vaccine doses through COVAX, the global vaccine sharing program.

The US has provided $782 million in humanitarian assistance to the country, including the new aid, since October 2021, Horne said.

Lawmakers have urged the Biden administration to take action to avert an economic disaster in Afghanistan, proposing measures that could provide relief.

In a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, a group of House lawmakers advised the administration to release frozen Afghan funds “to an appropriate United Nations agency to pay teacher salaries and provide meals to children in schools, so long as girls can continue to attend. They also advised officials to clarify sanctions exemptions for humanitarian aid, to “assist multilateral organizations attempting to pay Afghan civil servants,” to allow financial institutions to inject capital into the Afghan economy and to “prepare to rally donors to contribute their fair share” to the upcoming UN appeal for Afghanistan.

In December, the Biden administration announced it was lifting some restrictions on the types of aid that humanitarian organizations can provide to Afghanistan that would enable support for educational programs, including paying teachers’ salaries.

International humanitarian organizations are also sounding the alarm that Afghanistan is on the brink of disaster as its economic and medical systems collapse and millions face starvation after the Taliban takeover and US withdrawal.

The International Rescue Committee ranked Afghanistan No. 1 on its annual emergency watchlist of countries whose humanitarian crises are expected to deteriorate in 2022.

The starvation conditions are not due to the Taliban being in power, but the American imposed economic sanctions and its refusal to release billions of dollars of Afghanistan's cash assets currently being criminally and perniciously held in European banks.

really now and your sure about that ?

I complain about white people abandoning brown people to murderous despots and then sending money to the despots hoping they will show mercy on their oppressed victims.

Flooding the Taliban with money will not help the poor people under brutal oppression by the terrorist despots. Nevertheless, the article stated that the US government is sending $300 billion in aid to Afghanistan. My contention is that the money will not likely reach the poor people after being consumed by political powers ruling Afghanistan, some no doubt with connections to American political powers.

In case you've forgotten, USA invaded the place now you're complaining they abandoned them.

You can't have it both ways comrade.

It's a fact. The US government has to lift the sanctions and release billions of dollars in assets that belong to Afghanistan that are now being frozen in European banks. Release those seven billion dollars and lift the economic embargo, allowing Afghanistan to freely trade with the world and that would greatly improve the conditions on the ground for the Afghan people.

The Taliban is currently the ruling authority in Afghanistan and the money that would be released already belongs to Afghanistan. If they misuse their own money, that's their fault, not ours. America can't be blamed if it releases the billions of dollars now being frozen in EU banks to its owner. If the owner of that money misuses it, that's on them, America can't be blamed for all of those starving children. The sanctions also need to be lifted because that only hurts the common people.

As far as the Taliban being a brutally oppressive regime, that might be true, but you're not helping the situation or improving the lives of the average Afghan by starving them. Saudi Arabia is also a brutal regime and yet we maintain relations with them. Stop trying to save the world and being a self-righteous do-gooder. When you do that, you cause more harm. Let the Afghans eat.

So would a change in leadership

Until that happens, let the people eat and have access to healthcare, and an education. We should concern ourselves with our own leadership and if you want to influence the world, do it by setting a good example, not by being a do-gooder that starves children through economic sanctions and war.
