There's some interesting info in this two-part video.

Does everyone know about the Sea Shepherd organization?

Do searches on "Paul Watson" for more good stuff.

It seems that there is a floating patch of garbage in the Pacific ocean that's twice the size of Texas.

According to the first video overfishing is part of the problem. What does everybody think about everybody's renouncing seafood?

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Paul Watson and his organization are nothing more than eco terrorists, and their actions (in my opinion) amount to piracy on the high seas in regards to the Japanese whaling fleet....frankly, the Japanese are well within their rights to shoot them in my opinion.

Agreed. What a bunch of BS.

I intend to continue eating lots of seafood.

I have read, seen (tv), several times that the Japanese have agreed with other whaling nations not to take whales for the purpose of human consumption, but to only take whales for "scientific study". However, the Japanese continue to take more whales than could be required just for study. In effect, Japan wants to end whaling by other countries but, want to continue taking them themselves under the guise of scientific study. In short, their actions indicate that they want the resource exclusively for themselves and are unconcerned about conservation or even driving some whale species to extinction.

The other nations do naught but complain, whereas the "greenese", at least try to thwart the Japanese whaling fleet. It is unfortunate that the conservationists do not have submarines equipped with torpedoes.

The Japanese are breaking no law in conducting their limited whaling operations for research.

Further, what are you basing the claim that Japan takes more than needed on? The only real claims of that I have seen are from blatantly bias groups.

In my opinion, the Japanese have shown great restraint in their dealings with the the Eco terrorist group Sea Shepards. Paul Watson's actions amount to nothing more than piracy in my opinion, and the Japanese are well within their rights to shoot people who illegally attempt to board their vessels.

The people who are shown on such shows as Whale Wars etc, come across as absurd, and they would be better served getting an actual job.

It's alleged that Japan also takes fin whales which are endangered. All I have is second hand information. I'm not in a position to verify anything. Do you think they don't take fin whales?

Anyway, I think whales are intelligent creatures that shouldn't be hunted at all.

People eat dogs in some Asian countries and Americans think that's pretty sick as they think dogs are too intelligent to kill and eat. After having seen videos of whales, I think killing and eating them is as sick as killing and eating dogs.

I was under the impression Japan did take some Fins, not sure of the exact number, as allowed for research purposes.

Most animals have some basis of intelligence, I don't agree that we can use that as a justification for banning the killing of those animals.

I agree. I eat humans (taste like pork albeit salty), and I would not want to be condemned for killing them just on the basis that they are intelligent.;)

Assuming you are human I agree. There is no condemnation for killing your food becuase it is intelligent. I would condemn you for murder instead.

But, if on the other hand you are a bear then I completely expect you to eat us and to not care at all how intelligent we are. Not only do I expect it but I respect your decision. Just stay away from those of us who have filled our bodies with toxins - they might go up the food chain.

I think Dr. Who said pretty much what my response would be....although I am somewhat surprised they don't "taste like chicken." ;)

My objection of Japan's whaling is not based on whale's intelligence. It is based on the fact that they signed a treaty with other whaling nations to stop whaling until the populations recover to the point where whaling would not pose a risk of extinction of some of the species. Japan continued to whale under the guise of "research". The complaints against Japan come from nations who have a whaling industry...not just conservationists.

The treaty permits research whaling however...they ought to attempt to rework the treaty if they really want to put an end to what Japan is doing.
