Why do democrats think it is OK for other countries to rob Americans with unfair tariffs but that if Trump tries to make fair trade deals by making tariffs fair they go ballistic?

Tariffs are never fair nor unfair. The price of a given item is the cost of materials + the cost of labor + a reasonable profit. A tariff adds nothing to the value of anything. That is why tariffs should be avoided wherever possible, as they raise the price of the item without adding any value to it.

Tariffs are either rarely and wisely imposed, or stupidly imposed. When Americans buy computers from China, it is a fair exchange, as Americans will get a good computer at a lower price than if he bought one from a US manufacturer. My first 386 computer was made in the US and cost me over $4000. The last two computers I bought were made in China, a Dell desktop and an HP Laptop. Neither cost more than $180. So there is no way that I was in any way exploited by the Chinese. The manufacturers were US companies, after all, and $4000 in 1982 was a lot more money in 1982 than it is today.


It costs more to grow and harvest coffee in Hawai'i than in Brazil, because labor costs more in Hawai'i and hurricanes also make the crop less predictable from year to year. So Hawai'i grows a variety of coffee, called Kona, that has a unique flavor, and can be sold for a higher price.

There is no possibility that Brazil will buy as much coffee from the US than the US will buy from Brazil. There is no reason at all for Trump to put a tariff on Brazilian coffee. As it is, Brazil buys more from the US than the US buys from Brazil.

Incidentally, it seems that Shitshizpants was actually trying to help the convicted criminal Bolsonaro to escape his 27 year sentence for plotting to overthrow Lula's election and to have Lula killed. Bolsonaro was under house waiting to be sent to prison and he hacked off his ankle monitor. A day before, Bolsonaro visited the White House. It seems likely that there was a plot to help Bolsonaro escape Brazil and go somewhere where he could not be repatriated to serve his sentence, and that the plot FAILED, like so many of Shitshizpants stunts.

Most Americans have no idea what is fair or unfair about tariffs or how imposing tariffs can lead to other things like negotiated settlements to war, but that does not stop thousands of the inexperienced or ignorant politicos from criticizing Trump from their positions of ignorance.
