Sorry, not so. Conservatives are NEVER "social authoritarians", whatever that is. Some Republicans may be, but conservatives aren't.


Unless the "personal choice" you're talking about, is the choice of whether to murder somebody, steal from them, etc. Then yes, conservatives support government enjoining that. But not for "authoritarian purposes". It's to protect people's rights and encourage freedom.

"Conservative" isn't a group, it's a philosophy. It's the idea that government should stay out of people's affairs and lives, except for necessary functions that private people and groups CANNOT do, for protecting their rights. Foreign relations, national defense, dispassionate criminal pursuit and prosecution, etc.


"Republican", OTOH, is a group.
