First of all, America has only been around for 231 years; so do not get cocky yet. The Roman Republic lasted 400 years before it evolved into an imperial government; and this was because the consuls (who were their Executives) brought more and more power to themselves through the years. Sound familiar?I would say that we do have more effective oversight and checks & balances in our government than the Romans did; however, that still does not mean it is impossible. To be honest, Bush's recent remarks of "decision-maker" and "decider" have got me a little worried.
