Today 1-18-10 America wastes Billions of dollars by declaring MLK a federal holiday. Our Nation ,in truth,needs only four federal holidays, Christmas, 4th of July , Thanksgiving Day , and a U.S. CONSTITUTION DAY falling on the third Monday of January each year.
The U.S. Constitution Day would recognize all the past men and women who were most responsible for forwarding the Values expressed in our Constitution by our Founders. Also this U.S. Constitution Day would celebrate the lives of those we have chosen for recognition and every citizen can honor them as they desire.
The purpose of this approach is two fold, 1- to consolidate into just one Federal Holiday, instead of having various calendar dates throughout the year honoring past citizens,saving billions of dollars over time.
2- Only Christmas , 4th of July ,Thanksgiving, and the U.S. Constitution Day would be declared FEDERAL HOLIDAYS .
This would save Billions of dollars over time in wages now paid for work never done . Reduced Federal Holidays would bring more meaning and attention . Plus, having a special day earmarked to Celebrate our Constitution would allow us to tie in the works from our honored heroes to the promises outlined in our Constitution.A special tool for educating our youth concerning our Constitution and how it works in concert with struggling citizens to improve life for all citizens.
SAVING MONEY and PRODUCING BETTER , MORE INFORMED CITIZENS!!

Well, To Make this novel idea happen takes people like you and many others to put forth the idea and support it .
The best way to gain support from the citizens is to write 'LETTERS TO YOUR EDITOR" almost every local paper has a section. These letters once accepted by the paper are printed and thus the educational process of the public begins. In addition you write your Senators , Your Congress man or woman . get them to thinking about this wonderful idea. You may find one who even uses it in his campaign literature!!
NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT HARDWORK and THOUGHT!!!
TRY writing your letters, you will feel very proud to see it published!!
DO NOT GIVE UP!!! ENLIST OTHERS IN YOUR EFFORT!! It takes very few letters to a Politican to get his attention , especially coming from various citizens!! GOOD LUCK!!

Umm not to burst your bubble but you forgot to mention Veterans Days, Memorial Day and Labor Day. If you plan on removing those days from the Calender then your ship is already sunk before it even left port. The first two holidays honors those who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice today in our armed forces. The latter recognizes the hard work and dedication of the common working man. MLK day is equally important because we celebrate what the man accomplished in regards to the civil rights movement. Also did you know that presidents day is a federal holiday as well? We celebrate that day to honor George Washington and Araham Lincoln. Both men played a very important part role in the history of our nation. So if you want to pick and choose what holidays get excluded and what holidays get included then good luck to you sir but I can honestly tell you with great certainty it's a lost cause but I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor.

So its not a waste of money that I evrything is closed so Christians can pretend god gave birth tohimself threw a virgin, only to have himself killed so he could come back and save us all....of course we would never bother to do anything for any other Religions holiday ...that would be wasteful.

And why would we want to Celebrate a man who helped make sure that those rights in the constitution applied to more then just white men? A man who along with those who helped woman do the same before, did more in the last Century to give those rights to the people, that where laid on paper...but then never given.

Far better we pretend and have Thanksgiving , so we can pretend like we got along great with the indians before we tried to kill them all and took over....

Also maybe you think Americans don't like days off, we like working more days then most industrial nations....after all then we would just have to see our Families and freinds...we can't have that...got to make more money so the company stock can go up a tick...before they lay off the workers and give themself a bonus

Sorry, you missed the entire point, our U.S. CONSTITUTION DAY is to HONOR and REMEMBER ALL those who gave to this GREAT NATION. Ex -PRESIDENTS , VETERANS , LABOR, CIVIL RIGHTS -- ALL ARE REALLY JUST DEFENDING OUR CONSTITUTION and CLAIMING THE RIGHTS GIVEN UNDER IT!!
The INDIVIDUAL CITIZEN ON THAT DAY can give SELECTED INDIVIDUAL PRAISE TO THOSE HEROES HE/SHE SELECTS FOR MORE PERSONAL RECOGNITION!!

GOOD LUCK following that train of thought process by 'ALWAYS'...the facts {or the grand lack of facts} in his thought process has so many holes as to be similar to SWISS CHEESE and as smelly too!

The only people that this mindless dribble will impact are the FEDERAL EMPLOYEES...the rest of the working class of America get days off but there are very few corporations that follow the finite detail and 'PAY' for those lists of days off...they might select a few and say that 'these 4-6 days will be our paid holidays', they might say these are the days that we will be closed for the holidays but they aren't PAID DAYS OFF...so the entire premise and thought process is just another convoluted mess that has no base except to impact the federal employees {of which Pandora admittedly is one} so exactly who will benefit and who will feel the savings and HTH will this ever change anything.

GOOD GRIEF but OH, BOY write those letters to all of the local newspapers that you want to and just sit back and wait for that avalanche of dead air and non-reactive chain of events...LMAO

The MLK holiday is a waste of time & just a celebration for liberal Democrats(so they won't feel guilty), as well as to make King more important than any other historical figure. Thanksgiving, Christmas, 4th Of July & Easter are the most important holidays, but the politicians from both parties don't get it. Christians deserve as much rights of free expression of their religion as any others even though you would think Muslims run the country. Federal employees are the lowest of the low of importance & don't deserve any special favors. The U. S. Constitution has been trampled on by Obama & the Democrats more times than I can count in his first year. Brown winning heavily against Coakly in Kennedy country is a sign the president & his party should pay attention to.
