The chinese appear to be making steady strides in space (even though this was accomplished by the US 43 years ago). The US has to start thinking once more about space weapons. The chinese purpose in their space program can only be military ultimately. Chinese military doctrine against the US calls for taking full advantage of assymmetry - they know the whole US military, even individual munitions, now depend on space assets. Crippling these would be a devastating blow to the US military worldwide.
