Today Rush cited stats that show the average retired san francisco government worker has a bigger pension than working San franciscan's paychecks.

I bet the same thing holds true for many retired workers. Really common among retired military.

If you plan carefully, double dipping and triple dipping can let you retire in Thailand with beautiful bar girl.

What you think "Lick-san, you think get old life stop? No just stat. I love you foreva. When next pay day?"

If only my parents had said, "Sonny, you need to get a good government union job so you can retire in style." Hell...I could have saved so much time and money rather than attending college.

We can all thank Liberalism for this economic dysfunction.

Boy, ain't this the truth. The whole trick is knowing how to beat the system. I spend most of my time retired in Indonesia. I meet many Americans who really were clever about learning the system. It requires homework, but it's worth it.

One example: You only need to work 15 years to get Social Security. You can retire at full pay from the military after 30 years service. So you join the military, and also start your own little company. One man has exported cheap carvings from Indonesia for years. He did it by telephone when in the military, but now he uses the Internet.

Now he goes into the Social Security site and see how they calculate SS benefits, and pays himself the optimal wage and FICA. At the same time he is in the military racking up time.

Now assume he retires from the military at age 50 at full pay. Now, he has a bad back and convinces a doctor (and good lawyer) to get Social Security Disability Insurance because he can't do his reasonable and customary work.
So every month he also gets a $1500 check from Social Security.

He moves to Indonesia (cheap), has two kids from a young wife, and Social Security Disability pays an extra $1200 to support the kids.

He sells his house in New York and buys 50 acres of land + a villa on a mountain, overlooking the ocean... here's a picture of his house (note the jacuzzi out on the teak wood deck).

He has maids, horses, several workers and gardeners, 4WD truck and a Benz.

Age 54 now, and his export business is going strong! Of course, all the money is in an off-shore account. He's really not a brilliant man, just spent the time to learn the rules.

don't go to college and try to make a good living in the Government...See how well that works when you get nowhere.

Go into the supply corps and work in the US. Or join the Navy. When was the last time anyone fired a bullet on a Navy ship?

Pocket, are you saying everyone should just be a dumb sh!t and work for the MAN at dirt wages with zero retirement. Ok, up to you. Retiring rich is not easy or everyone would do it.

Interesting story. I have heard similar.

The thing is trying to get on the government gravy train NOW is way too late. The whole system designed by foolish progressives is about to come crashing down as it is in Europe.

If the progressives were smart (I know smart and progressive don't mix), they would have worked hard to keep our economy strong, limiting business taxes, regulations, and promoting American business nationally and worldwide. This might have generated enough in taxes to keep the outsized welfare state working. But, they just aren't that smart. Instead they have worked hard to destroy private enterprise while expanding the welfare state.

That's the key insight. Cities, states, and whole countries have been bankrupted by endless leftwing greed and parasitism off the societies they infest.

Agreed and yet, many Americans still do not see the truth of this. How can they be so blind?

Listen, I we can pay social security if the Liberals would stop changing the rules hidden away in some book of regulations - such as allowing for disability at a young age. Hey SS is for retirement not disability.

We can give seniors and poor people health care if they can't afford it - but you don't get "the best health care in the world", as people like to call it in the US. After age 80, grandma goes into a hospice home to die a painless death. Between 65-80, you don't get hip replacements and cures for complex cancers, etc. Death has dialed your number, and the taxpayer can't afford to let you live forever.

A BASIC safety net should be available to make sure people aren't living and dying on the streets when they don't want to. But the whole program should be under one agency and run with touch, means tested rules. If you want government help, your SS card gets a special stamp that says, "Certifiably poor!"

We can do these social programs if they are very modest, and well managed, ie, efficient. And if anybody doesn't like the prospect of living a modest existence on hard times, then save money for retirement when you are young and making money.

America can be a compassionate country without being a socialist country. We have revenues higher than 90% of the rest of the world. Don't cut out programs, just reduce, cutback and manage the programs so the money we have flowing into the government is wisely spent.

The Death Panel idea seems to be taking hold ....

Not a Death Panel, Hospice is death with dignity. What happens when science can cure all diseases and people can stay alive virtually forever? Do you want to be a worn out, frail, human being that must spend half your time in a hospital - when you are 150 years old. I don't.

People must be allowed to die. It is God's will, not a death panel!

Statists want people to be "allowed to die" when cures are available, so that they can balance their rationing budget - nothing else.

YOU SAID:

You are clearly talking about rationing by a death panel, not God.
