Alcoholism, also known as Alcohol abuse.

There is no you may not get cirrhosis, liver disease or cancer, there is only you WILL get it
There is no you may not get Pancreatitis, there is only you WILL get it
There is no you may not get kidney failure, there is only you WILL get it
There is no you may not get necrosis of the bones (a less famous injury also caused by alcohol), there is only you WILL get it
There is no you may not get brain damage and become mentally ill and mentally retarded, there is only you WILL get it

There is no you may not become addicted, there is only, you WILL become addicted

There is no you may not have to quit, there is only you WILL quit, either dead or alive.

And the biggest problems with Alcohol abuse, isn't in Africa, or continental Asia, its right here in the first world.
So when is something going to be done about it outside of the USA ?

Its about time it was called out for what it is.
Liquid death, one way or another.

Werbung:
raise the drinking age to the scientific based age 21, based on brain development, and quit glorifying it, get rid of it as part of their "culture".

They got rid of guns as part of the culture, they can get rid of poison as part of their culture too.

Actually ....

Moldova ranks the highest in alcoholism. The US ranks number 57.

And, what would you propose doing about alcoholism "outside the US"?

Ban alcohol advertising, just like the ban on tobacco advertising.

The top 10 countries with the worse alcoholism are ALL communist countries. High unemployment, high taxes, no freedom or liberties and we are concerned about their alcoholism rate, why?

Because apparently they want us to join them, drinking at 14, 16 and 18, which is infact the very reason for the high alcoholism rates in Europe in the first place.

Well the OP asks a good question because alcohol abuse is very very widespread and it IS a major problem.

Yet there is no certainty that it WILL result in any of the things on that list. The probability of any of the things on that list for most drinkers is probably never any higher than 30% (just a guess). I think it would have been better to show how appalled we should feel that 30% of heavy drinkers experience cirrhosis of the liver...

Isnt it true that people who drink in the household with their parents from a young age learn to drink without abuse? Isn't the 9 year old in Italy who drinks one small glass of wine at a meal less likely to become an alcoholic than the 14 year old in the US who steals from her dad's liquor cabinet and drinks behind the shed with her friends?

No, that isn't true.
Because Europe has a much, much higher rate of alcohol abuse.
Alcohol is addictive, and the younger a person starts, the more likely they are to become alcoholics, and having a friendly invite to drink it, tells the kid that its ok to use it, and what comes with it, is addiction over time.

As a matter of fact, children who grow up with parents who drink, are more likely to drink themselves.

And what happens to 14 year olds who steal liquor from their dads, is they get a belt across their ass and learn a lesson.
:)

As a matter of fact, the entire system of the way European countries work, doesn't work.

Public healthcare gives people an idea that they can just go do whatever they want to themselves, and its society's responsibility to pay for their healthcare, while it being none of anybody else's business, what they are doing to themselves to require the healthcare that everybody else is paying for.

This is not only greed, this is also hypocrisy and aristocracy, and abuse of the tax payer.
