Boehner mixes up Constitution and Declaration


House Minority Leader John Boehner was fired up and ready to go at the Tea Party rally today.

He even held up his pocket copy of the Constitution, pledging to "stand here with our Founding Fathers, who wrote in the pre-amble: 'We hold these truths to be self evident ..."

Oops.

That would be the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence that he's reading.

The pre-amble to the Constitution (some of us can still sing the Schoolhouse Rock version):

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Asked about the mixup, Boehner spokesman Michael Steel shot back: "Sure, the GOP is full of morons. But both texts are vital to the liberty beloved by every American."

It's lookin' like....being mixed-up is the least o' Boner's worries!!!

"To say that the Republicans in the U.S. Senate are engaging in an unconstitutional abuse of power by blocking virtually all legislation proposed by either the Obama administration or the Democratic majority in Congress is not just political grandstanding. Nearly 300 bills that have passed in the House since the current 111th Congress took office 14 months ago have been blocked in the Senate by Republican filibusters. There is nothing in the Constitution that gives the minority party in the Senate any authority to hold these bills hostage by forcing a 60-vote "super majority"."
 
That's a pretty serious fault. When is he scheduled to lost his Minority Leader position?

The good news is (and of the same import) that at least Boehner can spell preamble... and Boehner. Probably pronounces it correctly, too.

Pretty important stuff.
