Why does Pelosi continue to refuse to allow drilling to come to a vote?

1) What is she worried about? She is in the majority party, if what she wants is really what the country wants then her party should have no problem voting it down.

Problem: Even many Democrats in Congress are now calling for this to come to a vote and are coming out in support of off-shore drilling.

2) Pelosi does not want to send democrats back to their districts for reelection after having to face a vote such as this. Everyone says the GOP is in the pocket of "BigOil" but ignores that the Democrats are just as much in the pockets of the Environmental movement.

This environmental lobby supplies candidates with millions upon millions in campaign funds which are always needed for elections. To put the democrats on a vote such as this would compromise these funds.

3) 64% of Americans are in favor of off-shore drilling. Even in California 51% of people are in favor of off-shore drilling. So why does Pelosi continue to further her own agenda against the will of the people she supposedly represents?

Pelosi needs to stop playing political games and at the very least allow this to come to a simple up or down vote, which she continually refuses to do.

She is worried the congress will cave and actually do for the people what the people want them to do instead of what they have decided is best fo us. She is a socialist communist monster from hell

Probably the same reason the Republicans just blocked the continuation of tax credits for alternative energy... wind... solor... etc. because the Democrats wouldn't give the additional tax break to Big Oil as well.

People this drill thing is a red herring. It's putting a Band Aid on a compound fracture with the bone sticking through the skin.

Why not drill on the over one million acres Big Oil already holds leases on? The reason is sooo obvious. They know when Senator Obama gets elected he will push for more alternative energy and less tax breaks for Big Oil. It won't be a "head in the sand we can drill our way out mindset anymore". It will be a dose of truth & reality.

They want as many leases as possible in their pocket before he takes over. The Dems tried to bring up use it or lose it on Big Oil leases to get that ball rolling... pubbies didn't want to do that.

Come on folks when there is other American oil available do we REALLY want to roll the dice of a catastrophic oil spill from a platform just off the vacation capitals of the world Florida & California. When we can directionally drill and not have to disturb the pristine national wildlife area in Alaska but still tap into that same pool of oil do we really have to give away the whole country to Big Oil.

I sure hope not.

So when your needle is on empty, do you fill your tank with Hope?

I suspect that Pelosi will allow a republican sponsored offshore drilling bill to come to a vote. Of course, she will open the amendment floodgates also. The bill will come to a vote with everything the republicans want as part of the bill. It will also have many things that will cause even the bills sponsors to vote against it.

Isn't politics wonderful!

And with enough earmarks and pork for special interests... It might pass!

Let them Drill Pelosi

Lets drill into all the politicians and use the hot air to spin turbines and create electricity... at least then our politicians would be of some use.

The hidden reason behind the refusal to allow drilling is because LIBS WANT gas prices to be high - then they will get more popular support for their ecofascist agenda. That they use high prices to attack McCain is just duplicitous chutzpah.

Yes! But the first well must go not on the thousands of acres of already leased and undrilled lands BigOil already has amassed (not counting its recent aquisition of Iraq), let's drill in Libsmasher's backyard pool!

Take one for the team Libby!

And here's to the ever expanding empire, profits and monopoly of BigOil. While american economy continues it's trip down the septic pipes and into the sewers, BigOil again enjoys a constant upturn in profits. It's almost an inverse relationship at this point..

Drill drill drill! The icecaps aren't melting, there's no global funky weather, everything is normal and business as usual... No alternatives! Drill!!!

Counting Iraq is plain stupid.

As for drilling in our backyards, go for it, the royalties would be great, but the problem with your statement is that no one is wanting to drill in anyone's backyard. ANWR is a frozen tundra, and I am not sure of anyone who lives in the ocean.

Add to that, the number of acres that are thrown around as "not being drilled" is flat out misleading. The democrats include all land deemed "not producing" in that number but ignore that in many cases drilling is underway it is just not producing as of yet.

Are you going to go equally as insane when solar and alternatives finally manage to get themselves together and make a profit?

I do not see why you are so upset that a business makes money. Heaven forbid!

Right, and not drilling is going to make the icecaps come back right? Or maybe those alternatives that will take decades to make a dent is the solution?
