According to South Korea's national security adviser, Chung Eui-yong, "The North made clear its willingness for the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula, and made clear that there is no reason to own nuclear (programmes) if military threats towards the North are cleared and the security of its regime is guaranteed."

Kim Jong Un "made clear that achieving denuclearisation is his father's dying wish and that it has not been changed at all", according to a South Korean official who was speaking anonymously to the country's Yonhap news agency.

The US must take note of the following "suspicious behaviours" of North Korea prior to the summit:

(a) Kim did not personally invite Trump to the summit but did it indirectly through a South Korean envoy. This shows that he has no respect for Trump. Neither was the "invitation" diplomatically correct, courteous or sincere.

(b) In a commentary published Wednesday, 21 March 2018, North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) noted a “sign of change” in US-North Korea relations but mentioned nothing about the summit or denuclearisation.

(c) So far North Korea has been keeping a deafening silence about the Kim-Trump summit, not to mention Kim Jong-il's dying wish and Kim Jong-un's willingness for denuclearisation. South Korea has become the spokesman or mouthpiece for the North in passing the messages to the US. Hence it won't be difficult to imagine how Kim would respond to Trump's demand for North Korea's denuclearisation during the upcoming summit:

"Denuclearisation? What denuclearisation? Don't frighten me! I have never said anything about denuclearisation, not even in my sleep talking. So don't put words into my mouth! My principal position is that I will never agree to any talks in which my country's nuclear weapons will be the subject of negotiations.

If your country wishes to live safely, it must abandon its hostile policy towards the DPRK and learn to co-exist with my country that has nuclear weapons and should wake up from its pipe dream of our country giving up nuclear weapons which we have developed and completed through all kinds of hardships.

This fact that you are trying so hard to achieve my participation of the summit clearly reveals your wicked intent of leading me into giving up nuclear weapons. Your country should carefully consider how its ill-mannered behaviours can bring shameful results. Do you think I am a moron or dotard like you to abandon a very important project which my country has spent so much and taken almost 70 years to achieve?"

Poster's conclusion: In view of North Korea's longstanding vow that it will never abandon its nuclear programme, the sky would be falling if genuine denuclearisation of North Korea could be achieved in the Kim-Trump Summit. Even if the summit falls apart, crafty Kim will walk away with his newfound status as a global statesman on par with the leader of a supposedly sole superpower, especially in the eyes of his own people.
