There is an old rule-of-thumb that's embraced by the best lawyers. That rule-of-thumb is, "Never ask a question in court for which you don't already know the answer, and Never make a claim in court that might be pointed-out as a serious error by your opposition"! I suggest that you adopt that rule yourself in the future in order to avoid public embarrassment.

In order to compare any two or more statistics, it's wise to compare them on some EQUAL basis. Total number of gun deaths in multiple States must be compared on some Equal basis. As Dogtowner noted in his post, gun-deaths per-100,000 population is one such Equal Basis.
