- Theres's the AGW lunacy that will cost millions of people their jobs, and drastically lower the lifestyle of people in the US if it gets traction, and it looks like it probably will.

- There are the land takings from farmers etc, unfortunate enough to have an endangered rat burrow or something on their land.

- There's $4/gallon gasoline while alaska oil goes untapped so as not to ruin the scenic view of a few moose herds.

- There's the nuclear power paranoia that probably makes your electric bill twice what it should be, and worse in the future.

- And then there's the ef opposition to GM food:

GM food can:

- increase food productivity
- reduce the need for pesticides
- improve plants' ability to survive drought
- improve nutrients in them
On and on.

But efs oppose them, even though they would be good for the environment.

From the Huffington Post (where else?): “There have been few experiments as reckless, overhyped and with as little potential upside as the rapid rollout of genetically modified crops.”

All I can say is, take a class in environmental science. Learn about it before you start blasting it. I wasn't terribly fond of environmentalism until I learned about its root causes, and I've since (a bit grudgingly) changed my opinion on the matter.

So what do you mean by standard of living?

The US for example makes up only 6% of the worlds population and yet consumes almost 1/3 of the worlds resources. The USA also produces about 30% of the worlds pollution.

If you define standard of living on a spiritual and emotional level, then the USA is a very poor nation indeed - perhaps amongst the poorest in the world.

I assume that when you say STANDARD of LIVING, you mean levels based on materialistic and consumption intensities?

Yeah, well then the USA has a very high standard of living based on those criterias (although the distribution within the US population is not that equal is it - The USA has one of the largest proportions of its population living under the poverty line - WELL DONE on that score - I hope they are getting looked after when they get sick . Your health system is an exclusive system isnt it! - exclusive to those who can pay - so much for the American Dream hey)

That's because the US is an efficient highly capitalistic society with a democratic government - the incomparable one-two punch. People in North Korea, Zimbabwe, and Cuba live miserable drab existences, don't consume much, and don't produce pollution because of their marxist leaders and backward economic ideas. You want us to apologize for success.

If you define standard of living on a spiritual and emotional level, then the USA is a very poor nation indeed - perhaps amongst the poorest in the world.

An emotional level? What does that mean? who knows.

I assume that when you say STANDARD of LIVING, you mean levels based on materialistic and consumption intensities?

Damn right. :D

Yeah, well then the USA has a very high standard of living based on those criterias (although the distribution within the US population is not that equal is it -

"Distribution" is a statist concept I don't subscribe to. ;)

The USA has one of the largest proportions of its population living under the poverty line

Preposterous - you're done.

That's because the US is an "efficient" highly "capitalistic" society with a "democratic" government

Lets deal with the three terms in your opening remarks individually shall we.

1. Efficient?

You mean in producing pollution, waste and material decadence? Yes then I agree.

2. capitalistic?

You mean the world's number ONE corporate welfare state. HOW IS THE ECONOMY GOING THERE BY THE WAY? HAS THE US TAX PAYER PUMPED IN ENOUGH MONEY TO PROP UP THE INNEFICIENT US FINANCIAL SECTORS?

WELCOME TO SOCIALIST AMERICA - THE FAKE FREE MARKET ECONOMY OF THE WORLD

3. Democracy?

You mean PLUTOCRATIC OLIGARCHY DONT YOU? The USA has NEVER been a functioning democracy. It violent history is based on genocide of the indigineous populations, slavery and NOW the private corporate welfare system.

Remember the wise words of John Dewey about a century ago - "governments are the shadows cast by big business over society"

And thats what you have today.

You are living in a dream - that is fast becoming a nightmare.

The USA is essentially a ROGUE state that is in severe danger of becoming a FAILED ROGUE state.

Good luck with everything - Youre gonna need it!

Do you mean they account for almost 1/3 of the world's GDP? Every time I hear this it's phrased a different way -- it accounts for 1/3 of the world's resource consumption, energy consumption, wealth, etc.

The only actual hard statistic I can find is that it accounts for 1/3 of the world's GDP, which is only modestly related to consumption of resources.

Your health system is an exclusive system isnt it! - exclusive to those who can pay - so much for the American Dream hey)

Sure, but then most people can pay. On account of the fact that we're rich.

Access to a waiting list =/= access to healthcare.
