Steven Harper is attempting to remove the canadian gun registry, claiming the excessive costs do not out weigh the meager if any benefits.

I think this is a bold move for Canada. Gun registeries only force law abiding citizens to tell the government what firearms they own. Not only is this pointless, since most criminals are not going to register, but it is a waste of money (1 Billion to be exact). This money could go to more effective programs that actually might stop the problem.

Instead of worrying about what sort of firearms citizens own, the Canadian government should spend resources on illegal firearms. Registries only place regulations on law-abiding citizens not criminals as Brandon said.
