Well, not exactly the Chinese per se, but our penchant for buying everything under the sun from that country because they're able to produce it cheaper than most other places can:

U.S. Identifies Tainted Heparin in 11 Countries

WASHINGTON — A contaminated blood thinner from China has been found in drug supplies in 11 countries, and federal officials said Monday they had discovered a clear link between the contaminant and severe reactions now associated with 81 deaths in the United States.

Maybe it's time to make our own medications here in the US, along with some other things. What do you think?

Well it was produced by an American company... just made in low wage china. But hey , low wages is capitalistic America's driving force right? I think we need to follow in the footsteps of France's economic genius in this particular case; France operates on an import quota system, it is in place to ensure that the majority of certain products are produced locally, be it 60%, 20%, or even 100% for certain controlled products. This keeps low wages from drawing off all of the French industry to other developing countries. The US really must do something. Medical supplies should either require Foreign host countries to submit to stringent FDA inspection on a regular interval (and without advance warning) and the FDA needs to be sure they follow through with said inspections. We're too busy jaggin off in the desert to concern ourselves with such unimportant things though, right?

PLC1, I'll have to agree with r0beph here.

Don't blame the Chinese for making a living in almost the only way they can - blame the western company who actually controls how the drug is made.

The problem is, the western company can't control how the drug is made so long as they farm it out to cheap labor in China. It is the practice of purchasing everything from China that is to blame, and the policies of the government that allow it to be done under the banner of "free trade."

The practice of purchasing everything from China is not Chinas fault - its the consumers and the companies who deal with the inbetween of the sun block being made to ending up in your house.

Remember when we used to complain and make jokes about everything being made in Japan? At least they didn't try to kill the rest of the world and their pets too!
