It is virtually impossible for a liberal and a conservative to have a meaningful political discussion. They come from two completely different directions, with little commonality at all.Conservatives look at things as they ARE, recognize the foibles of the human spirit (but believe, given the opportunity, people will do the right thing), and deal in facts (both good and bad), and as such, try to develop processes and pathways to get to the end goal.Liberals look at things as they PERCEIVE them to be, do not believe in the goodness of the human spirit and believe that people will inherently lie, cheat, and steal, and deal in emotions, rather than facts, and as such, believe that the only way to get to the end goal is for the government to mandate compliance.
