As very dutifully illustrated by Star Trek and Star Wars, energy based weapons are the future of arms technology. To not rely constantly on clips of physical bullets, which can jam our existing weapons, and rely on power cells instead are the ideal. The day we can use the laser in pistols and rifles will be the dawn of a whole new era!

To not rely constantly on clips of physical bullets, which can jam our existing weapons, and rely on power cells instead are the ideal. The day we can use the laser in pistols and rifles will be the dawn of a whole new era!

One of the problems with using laser as a weapon is that a tremendous amount of power would be required to create a laser beam with sufficient strength that a lens to concentrate the beam would not be required. The current lasers used in industry to weld a stationary, attached to 220 volts, and still must focus the beam (concentrate the beam) within a few inches to generate the heat to weld steel. For a weapon to project the required heat over rifle distances, the amount of energy required is prohibitive of man-carried equipment.
At this point in laser technology, such a laser is sci-fi.

But doen´t science fiction hold a certain degre of truth? Isn´t it fiction wirrten about how theoretical science could one day come to fruition?
