The answer to your question is quite easy, and once it's pointed out, all becomes clear. Our founders knew that any nation can become a dictatorship without the vigilence of an informed citizenry. If our government's desire is to control our lives as within a dictatorship, that government must remove All obstacles in their way. Those obstacles to dictatorship include (1) a free and objective press (media), (2) a Judicial system made up of Judges who understand the Constitution and enforce it's original intent, (3) a well-educated and critically-thinking citizenry, and (4) arms with which we can defend against those who'd try to do away with the first three obstacles to dictatorship! As you may observe, we no longer have obstacles #1, #2, and #3 in place! Now #4 is at risk of being removed. Once our right to bear arms is gone, there'll be nothing left to do but kow-tow to the all-powerful dictators that follow!
