I read Hillbilly Elegy. Like Vance, I grew up far from the coasts, like Vance, I realized that NW Missouri was not a place with any interesting opportunities for me. So I transferred from the hometown Southern Baptist college to New Mexico State, and later worked and taught in IA, WA, KS, WV, VA, MD and FL.
Unlike Vance, I had no interest in the military and never considered the Ivy League.
Hillbilly Elegy is a worthwhile book to read. The film that was made of it was too condensed to make much sense of what Vance is today.
So the country can be saved, perhaps, if Trump makes his great patriotic act and Second Amendments himself, preferably on primetime TV, and then he turns the country over to Vance.
Lamentably, Trump is too much a coward to Second Amendment himself, despite the fact that it is the only way he will ever manage to be a martyr rather than the Worst President and most corrupt conman ever.
