1. (Bloomberg) -- JPMorgan Chase & Co. Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon said he regrets making a quip that his bank is likely to outlast China’s Communist Party.

“I regret and should not have made that comment,” Dimon said in a statement from the bank Wednesday. “I was trying to emphasize the strength and longevity of our company.”...

One of the few posts about Dimon’s comment on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like social-media platform, came from Shen Yi, a lecturer at Fudan University who has more than 1.5 million followers. “This guy is really quite arrogant,” Shen wrote. He later added: “Looks like JPMorgan doesn’t want its newly acquired license.”

Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of the Communist Party’s Global Times newspaper, posted on his Weibo account, which has 24 million followers: “I bet the Chinese Communist Party will outlast the United States of America.”

2. Unfortunately, such a bold, arrogant assertion came from a small fry instead of the CCP leader who seems to be living in a world of his own all this while. During the recent US-Sino virtual summit, the two-faced, gas-emitting White House incumbent must have noticed that his counterpart was sitting like a statue or robot, with an expressionless face and repeating the same old things (which he has said umpteen times before) over and over in a monotone throughout the meeting. There would be no difference if China used a robot for the summit instead. :)

What "one-China" principle? What red line on Taiwan? What no room for compromise on the Taiwan issue? What China's core interests? What playing with fire? Such Chinese phrases have been repeated so many times like mantra chants that they have lost their meanings and become a laughing stock to US politicians. It is like a lot of thunder and lightning without rain.

It seems that under the current leadership, China still cannot find its way out of "Ah Quism" and is still groping its way into the 21st century. As an example, China said it would release oil from its reserves not in accordance with other nations, but as per its own needs amid soaring fuel prices. News of release Chinese oil from its reserves, however, came after the announcement from senior US administration officials and amid continuing hostile US actions such as holding the second US-Taiwan Economic Prosperity Partnership Dialogue (EPPD) and inviting Taiwan to the "Summit for Democracy". China should have taken the opportunity to use its oil release as a bargaining chip against hostile US actions instead of acting in coordination with America and other US allies.

3. America's relations with the Chinese mainland and Taiwan are analogous to an unfaithful husband's infidelity. At first, the husband kept his mistress secretly away from his home. Gradually, he became bolder and treated his wife as though she was dead, just as in the Cantonese saying 當佢死 。 Eventually he invited his mistress home to sleep in the master bedroom in full, unrestricted view of his wife. Instead of seeking a divorce, the hopeless, foolish wife just clung to his leg, crying and begging him to stay with her.
