News From The Reddest State in America

Well I'll deny it for you. In Oklahoma the disctricts are run by Superintendants. It's not a political position. They hire them. They report to School Boards. Those are elected position. They're loaded, overwhelmingly loaded with Republicans. That's a fact, not a false opinion, like you expressed.

Let's say for a moment that some of you are right and Oklahoma school systems are run by the right wing Republicans. Then what is the excuse for Detroit School systems who can't even graduate 50% of the kids who start 9th grade or Washington DC which has a similar lack of success.

Just maybe it is the antiquated 19th century teaching methods along with a lack of incentive for the teachers and the students. While our politicians and unions posture for power our children suffer.

does the super teach the kids in class? or is that something teachers do?

Are you trying to say these kids are dumb because of the superintendant?

I say the learning is done by the teachers not the supers and not the school board

There are probably a million reasons other than the voting habits of many of the parrents as to why the kids answered that way.

I would think that the kindergarden curriculum would be most important.

Actually, it wasn't "chances", it was certainties. Many of the legislators in Oklahoma City strongly encouraged just that.
Whew!!!

Sounds like they're definitely managing the educational-system, down that way.

Some of you are going to feel like fools.

With just a moments research I got the explanation for this.

The company (some conservative group in this case) that did the polling intentionally did it in a way that would make the public school system look bad. They called a thousand high schoolers (at the worst time?) and told them that it was OK to answer the questions "I don't know". Then if a person did not answer for whatever reason they still marked it as an "I don't know." What the poll really surveyed was how many of the kids just didn't give a rats *** to answer the questions.

Everyone of us should have know just by looking at the ridiculousness of the result that the poll was seriously messed up. I mean don't we all know that every kindergardener knows: George Washington, wooden teeth, chopped down cherry tree, couldn’t tell a lie, Martha, and 1st president?

"does the super teach the kids in class? or is that something teachers do?"

You keep proving you're cluless about what you're ranting about. Of course the superintendant doesn't teach classes. You already knew that was a stupid comment. Of course the teachers teach the classes. Duh! But guess who sets the cirriculum? It's not the teachers. It's the school board, overseen by the superintendant.

"Are you trying to say these kids are dumb because of the superintendant?"

Nope, that's why I never said it. You're the only one that brought up that ridiculous comment so you could argue against your own statement. By the way, your losing that argument. Reflect on that a bit.

"I say the learning is done by the teachers not the supers and not the school board"

Actually, "the learning" is supposed to be done by the students. Since you're clueless about how the real world works, here's a quick piece of insight. A superintendant is hired by the school boards to administer the cirriculum they feel is appropriate. Members of the school board are holding elected positions, and they campaign as either a Republican or Democrat. The school board decides, the superintendant administers, and the teachers follow the agenda set for them.

The super does not have as much say in what the kids learn as you think they have. Much of it is state mandated and even more is federal mandates on what kids will be taught in school.

I think that is funny. I wonder what made them feel the need to do this. The only thing I can think of is the constant fight from public schools to stop home schooling and charter schools. I dont think its right to "trick" the kids but you got to do what you got to do when you are fighting for your childs education.

Thanks for the info Dr. Who

I attended the Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio public school system from 1956-68. Many school bond issues were on the ballot during those years. If memory serves, every one of them passed. It was an excellent school system with well qualified teachers.

I've lived in Jackson county Mississippi for the last 32 years. Bond issues are shot down left and right. The only one I recall being passed was for infrastructure costs for a new navy homeport base. The base only lasted less than ten years. It was shut down two years ago.

I'm a firm believer in the axiom "you get what you pay for".

We have several generations of Americans who are firmly convinced that we can have guns and butter. Only for a while, and then the piper has to be paid.

The problem is, we spend more per student than nearly any other nation, yet students from many countries consistently beat us in all standardized tests. I consider public schools a failure in socialism as well.

Identical tests were given between students from an upper-middle class school in New Jersey and one from a school in Belgium. The Belgians decisively beat the American kids in all categories.

American Student "I'm shocked, 'cause it just shows how advanced they are compared to us."

yeah Belgium.

I would even cite the complete morons on this forum as proof of our failing education system. When people can run around talking about how great gov-health care will be, and how we can have a national health plan that won't cost us trillions of dollars, obviously our education is failing either in basic math, or basic economics.

I would wager both.

BTW. As of 2007, HALF of ALL young Americans couldn't find New York on the map, but then I suspect they don't even know who their daddy is,
so why should they care about New York or Washington? I'd love to hear you say that they are of course all rightwingers, and the situation has improved or will, under Obama.

If you were really interested in the betterment of America instead of thinking that you know anything about peoples lives outside of your own intolerant world, you might be more concerned about what EVERYONE is being taught or not taught in school.

Once again. The Republican party is shrinking, as it should. The Libertarian party is growing, and they aren't stupid. Ever wonder how many Libertarians are highly educated as opposed to democrats? Even those who can speak English? Your true enemy is waiting quietly to play their hand at election time. You buffoons are playing your empty hand now, providing ammunition.

You make a great baby daddy point.

The main thing is what color they are. If they are White then they are just not getting the education they deserve. If they're Black, Brown, Red or Yellow then they are stupid because they can't find their daddy. BRILLIANT!:)

OK I wasn't being serious there. But I am now. I wasn't aware until just know that Libertarians feel they are sheep being pleasured... or is this just bad editing on a upcoming national campaign commercial.

....By "trick"ing them, huh??????

Yeah, that really panned-out, in the late-'60s/early-'70s, after most younger-people realized all the Absolutes they'd been sold (all-thru-their-Life) were B.S.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(...Especially about DRUGS....and, "THOSE people"!!!!!)
