What religious issues have occurred in Quebec have always been based on Quebec being Roman Catholic, often fanatically so, in Canada, which began as disputes between Roman Catholics and Protestants, starting with the conquest of Quebec by England. The English actually expelled French Catholics from the Province of Acadia, and renamed it Nova Scotia. Many of the Acadians moved to what was the French colony of Louisiana, where they are known as Cajans.
