Like any other mafia boss, frump knows how to put the squeeze on private companies

The US government has taken an unprecedented 10% stake in Intel under a deal with the struggling chipmaker and is planning more such moves, according to Donald Trump and the commerce secretary, Howard Lutnick, the latest extraordinary intervention by the White House in corporate America.

Lutnick wrote on X: “BIG NEWS: The United States of America now owns 10% of Intel, one of our great American technology companies. Thanks to Intel CEO @LipBuTan1 for striking a deal that’s fair to Intel and fair to the American People.”

Trump met with Lip-Bu Tan on Friday and posed for a photo with Lutnick. The development follows a meeting between Tan and Trump earlier this month that was sparked by the US president’s demand for the Intel chief’s resignation over his ties to Chinese firms.

“He walked in wanting to keep his job and he ended up giving us $10bn for the United States. So we picked up $10bn,” Trump said on Friday.

While Trump did not provide detail on the $10bn, the equity stake is about equal to the amount Intel is set to receive in grants from the government under the Chips and Science Act to help fund the building of chip plants in the US.

The Intel investment would be the latest of several unusual deals struck by the Trump administration with US companies, including agreeing to allow the AI chip giant Nvidia to sell its H20 chips to China in exchange for the US government receiving 15% of those sales. Chipmaker AMD struck a similar deal.

The Pentagon is also slated to become the largest shareholder in a small mining company to boost output of rare-earth magnets and the US government negotiated for itself a “golden share” with certain veto rights as part of a deal to allow Nippon Steel to buy US Steel.

Nobody loves government control of businesses and people more than do leftist democrats.

But this is an example of Shitshizpants taking a share of Intel, a private company. No Democrats were involved.

I don't see a problem with asking a company with ties to the CCP to give up a portion of its directorship to the US if it wants to do business in the US.

Intel (INTC) is a publicly traded US company that is NOT owned by ant Communist Party. It is rated "Very Bearish" by analysts, meaning, "it would be unwise to invest in INTC as compared with other companies (AAPL, QCOM, TXI).

There is aways a problem with the US government owning US companies. It is aways a conflict of interest, to start with.

now the neo-nazi war cabinet wants to get into the armaments business - just like adolf and his cronies..did someone say national socialism ???

they will not pay for a stake of course - trump never pays for anything - just use his mafia boss tactics to get what he wants !!!

"..US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on Tuesday that the Trump administration is considering taking stakes in major US weapons firms, comments that came after the US government announced it was acquiring a 10% stake in Intel, the US chip-making giant.

“Oh, there’s a monstrous discussion about defense,” Lutnick said when asked in a CNBC interview if the administration was considering taking pieces of US defense firms, such as Boeing, Palantir, and Lockheed Martin.

“Lockheed Martin makes 97% of their revenue from the US government. They are basically an arm of the US government. They make exquisite munitions, amazing things that can knock a missile out of the air when it’s coming towards you,” Lutnick added.

Lutnick said that Pentagon officials were discussing the idea. “What’s the economics of that? I’m going to leave that to my secretary of defense and the deputy secretary of defense; these guys are on it and are thinking about it,” he said.

Major US weapons firms already have a significant influence on US policy due to their funding of think tanks and what is known as the “revolving door” between the US government and defense firms. Many senior US military officers go to work for defense contractors after retiring from the military, and sometimes they return to working for the government and push policies that greatly benefit their former employers.

William Hartung of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft warned about the potential for the US government to take direct stakes in US weapons firms in comments to Reuters, saying it may “incentivize the government to put financial success for Lockheed Martin ahead of more important strategic considerations … We need some healthy distance between the government and the companies it is supposed to regulate.”

The US government has a legitimate interest in providing influence and oversight involving the military and weapons production.
