Since everyone seems to be scared of the Asia section I will start it off.

Since last years coup by the army, Thailand's economy is going into the toilet.

BANGKOK - Thailand's economy is fast decelerating, representing a volatile new complication to the country's already uncertain political situation and a significant risk to its overall global competitiveness.

A series of policy missteps have badly undermined foreign-investor confidence in the military-appointed government's economic stewardship, including the imposition of capital controls on foreign currency, equity and bond transactions, proposed

nationalistic amendments to the Foreign Business Act, and the nationalization of foreign-held media assets.

Taiwan needs to be the second sacrificial lamb, after Cambodia in the mid 70s, that the world financiers (predominately U.S. citizens) feed to the Chinese engine in order to garner incredible profits from cheap and abundent labor.

More proof that government control equals poverty.

It is naive to suppose that capitalist scruples takes morality in government into consideration in the pursuit of profit. Surely, capitalism would devour the opportunity to make profit dealing with a corrupt government - just as long as that government is PREDICTABLY corrupt.

Socialism never works.

That is because you are ignorant of socialism. Even the us applies some political innovations of a purely 'socialist' nature -- and you wouldn't know the first thing about it even if it sat in your face.

The classic and pathetic argument against sympathising with something supposedly unamerican - "Why don't you go somewhere else then."

Suppose you could have said that to whites who supported the NAACP back in the day - "If you like blacks so much, why don't you go live in Africa."

Actually, it's an increasingly-disgusted response to an unending stream of infantile personal attacks against myself, my wife, and my family.
