Predictions from mainstream economists were dire after President Donald Trump launched his tariff campaign just a couple weeks after he began his second term in office: Prices would rise — sharply — they said, reigniting an inflation crisis that tens of millions of Americans had elected him to solve.

But that massive, tariff-induced inflation spike hasn’t materialized. Not even close.

Not yet, anyway.

I can assure you that it is exactly what tariffs do. You will eventually regret it. I hope the country gets destroyed because of your ridiculous choice. Then you will have to accept I was right.

Democrats refused to believe Biden's massive spending increases were going to drive prices and inflation through the roof but that is exactly what happened. Democrats who believed the economy under Biden was great still claim Trump's economy will be much worse, even though it has done nothing but improve so far since Jan 21.

If I used to pay $1000 for a computer and now that same computer costs me $1300, explain how that is a good deal for me. Does it benefit me that the government now has $300 more of my money? Can you explain how?

Costs have risen significantly because of inflation which skyrocketed under Biden and has only minimally declined since then.
 
The tariffs are not hard to analyze. The treasury took in $28B more from tariffs last month.

That is a miniscule number when we are taking about $337B in imports. It is not even 10%.

So where is the economic damage? Inflation has been stable. Unemployment is still just 4.2%.

The trade deficit is less than half than when Trump took office. From $131B in Jan to $60B in July.

The total stock market index(VTI) is up 11% year to date.

Some economists talked about how disappointing the jobs numbers were last month. Only 73,000 jobs created.

In Germany they lost 75,000 jobs.

Unemployment is 4.2%. In Germany it is 6.3%. In China it is 5.4%.
