and its mainly beneath federal wasteland

seems the biggest problem going to get it would be how to accommodate all the people moving into the area for all those new tax paying jobs.

unless..... well, you know...

“The Green River Formation--an assemblage of over 1,000 feet of sedimentary rocks that lie beneath parts of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming--contains the world's largest deposits of oil shale,”Anu K. Mittal, the GAO’s director of natural resources and environment said in written testimony submitted to the House Science Subcommittee on Energy and Environment.

“USGS estimates that the Green River Formation contains about 3 trillion barrels of oil, and about half of this may be recoverable, depending on available technology and economic conditions,” Mittal testified.

“The Rand Corporation, a nonprofit research organization, estimates that 30 to 60 percent of the oil shale in the Green River Formation can be recovered,” Mittal told the subcommittee. “At the midpoint of this estimate, almost half of the 3 trillion barrels of oil would be recoverable. This is an amount about equal to the entire world's proven oil reserves.”

In her oral statement before the subcommittee, Mittal said that developing the shale oil would create wealth and jobs for the country, but also challenges for government.

“Being able to tap this vast amount of oil locked within this formation will go a long way to help to meet our future demands for oil. The U.S. Geological Survey, as you noted, estimates that the formation contains about 3 trillion barrels of oil of which half may be recoverable,” she said.

Pssh... That's only 428 years of oil independence at our current rate of consumption. Obviously our dear leader (and much beloved PLC) is right - There's no way we could ever "Drill-Baby-Drill!" our way out of dependence on foreign oil.

Yes, but BO and the enviro lobby will make sure that this huge oil source is protected from human contamination. And the MSM will never report this story.

We are awash in sources of oil, but thanks to liberalism we can't tap it.

much as Al Gore stands to gain monetarily from pushing Carbon Contamination, dems have jumped on other snake oil schemes to skim public money. we simply must get the government out of this. only the citizenry wants to see this of course so that makes it an uphill battle but its that important that we must do it.

Agreed.

Lets see...rising energy costs hurt the poor and middle class, but could easily be alleviated by tapping our known energy deposits. The Ds and enviro whackos will not allow new sources of oil to be tapped and are working hard to eliminate coal fired power plants. So, we can conclude they hate the poor and middle class and love the 1%.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted. - BO

well its not quite that simple. while major new exploration will cause prices to drop, the reason some of these new sources are viable is because the cost to obtain it fits within elevated oil rices. I'd like to see natural gas become more used in cars its cheap and abundant and a little cleaner to boot.

but your main point is well taken. despite the rhetoric the Dems absolutely require their boots on the neck if the poor and middle class.

Oil extraction does not create many jobs.
Alaska and North Dakota have LOTS of oil but very few people.
112,000 people
  • The United States oil and gas extraction industry employed some 112,000 people in 2022, including both full-time and part-time employment.
Your right but you forget all the jobs created after the oil is found aka spin off jobs.

The number of U.S. energy sector jobs grew 3.8% from 2021 to 2022, and clean energy jobs grew 3.9%, outpacing overall U.S. employment, which increased 3.1% in the same time period.1 The energy sector added nearly 300,000 jobs, increasing from 7.8 million total energy jobs in 2021 to more than 8.1 million in 2022.

As I said, Alaska and North Dakota have had big oil strikes, and they are still quite empty. Oil does not create jobs. Burning petroleum products does kill millions of people every year, slowly with breathing problems.

OIL crates job because people use it . Jobs in the gasoline industry the automotive industry shipping air travel are all possible because of oil.

Now as for North Dakota I have family there and its the number 3 oil producer in America.
It was second under Texas but Bidden put the hurts to shale oil production

Keep in mind that most reports of new oil finds are like drug busts: they are always reported to be the biggest ever.

Burning petroleum products pollutes the air we breathe and increases the CO 2 in the atmosphere. Petroleum derived fertilizers cause the death of vast numbers of ocean and river creatures. Oil is bad for humans and we should try to use less of it. As it stands, we are wrecking the planet.

Not mining needed fuels hurts poor people the worse as the industrial world struggles to keep moving.

Pollution and global climate change harms poor people more than wealth ones. They are more often forced to live near polluting factories and industrial waste dumps. They are less likely to be able to afford air conditioning in the summers and heat in the winter.
Big Oil does not give a damn about the planet. It s run by guys who know that they will all be dead before true disaster happens. In the meantime, they like the profits.
