Health-Care; The Saskatchewan-Experiment For U.S.???

"I’m not sure our national government is going to get there. I mean this is summer is not promising. I think it might happen on a state by state basis. You read my chapter about Canada. What happened in Canada is one province in Canada, Sasquatchian, it’s a lot like Colorado, you know. It’s half plains and half mountains. There are no rivers out there, so the borders are straight lines. It’s Colorado. You know? They elected a very lefty governor. It’s called a premiere in Canada. And he said everybody in our province should have health care, everybody should have health care. So he set up a state run single payer system. This was in 1944. Tommy Douglas was this man’s name. He called it Medicare. And it worked. All of a sudden everybody in Saskatchewan had medical care. Lots of doctors came there because they knew they’d get paid. And the other provinces saw it and gradually one by one, two by two they copied it. They saw that it was working. We could call it a STATES' RIGHTS issue (without that States' Right to Lynch, of course.)​

"President Obama must recognize how change is actually achieved in America. That means two things: 1. avoiding "big bang" change that is bound to fail; and 2. spurring innovative reform where it usually comes from -- the 50 states.

State governments understand the unique needs of their residents. So give them the challenge and the freedom to try innovative solutions. If these don't work, they can easily be repealed and redesigned, unlike a federal program and bureaucracy. If something works particularly well, the results can be shared with other states that may incorporate or copy the idea. And, best of all, state legislators are not hamstrung by national politics.

"Many Americans may not know what they want, but like their representatives, who didn't bother to read the original Obama Health Plan, one thing they can agree upon with equal ignorance, is that we don't want any inferior socialist health care program like the Canadians suffer with, because they know no better. They're just one of many countries which rates above ours in health care. Ask these Americans what the Canadian plan entails which frightens them. They may say long waits, inferior care, and Polly wanna cracker."
