This is my prediction if the outcome tonight is that Romney loses.

1) The rightwing of the Republican Party will lurch dramatically further to the right -- with the idea of "we nominated a moderate, and look what we got".
2) Moderate Republicans become further disillusioned with the brand being hijacked by the far right, and either A) attempt to take the party back or B) leave the party.
3) The Republican Party loses most hope of retaking the White House in the next decade or more -- and becomes a fractured party, with a tarnished brand, that struggles to attract membership in many parts of the country.

I hope that I am mistaken -- or that, should this occur, the process can be halted somewhere along the way.

My prediction would be:

Some in the Pub party want to lurch to the right but internal party politics will be governed by a sort of "market force" that will cause the most popular ideas to hold the most sway. Meanwhile the country as a whole will be dissatisfied with Obamas past performance and his performance over the next four years will galvanize that dissatisfaction; the country will move to the right overall as a response to bad democratic policies - and this will happen whether Romney wins or not.

If Romney loses

Rubio or West 2016
(I would put them on the same ticket, but they are both from Florida)

How funny!

From being so sure of Romney's LANDSLIDE win, to preparing for a "revenge" for the 2016 elections!

By the way, Allen West is being defeated as we speak. . .not a good O-men for a 2016 election bid!

Oh, breaking news: Pennsylvania goes to Obama (60%) and Romney (38%).

So sad for you all! :p

The next 4 years will be a rough time for the US. As we have seen, things that need to be done (like re-write the tax code) will never make it through a gridlocked Congress. The Middle East continues to deteriorate - and the pressure is going to be on Obama to "do something". If we continue building up national debt, something is going to crack. At best, Obama is going to be lucky to hold the status quo..

And what move can the the Republican party make to 'lurch' it to the right? The "right" issues of the past (ie, abortion, gay marriage, marijuana, etc) are just not going to lurch anybody... clearly society is tired of those issues. Except for Karl Rove and a few other neo-cons, the bulk of the Republican Party is going to be pushing for fiscal reform. That's popular idea with independents as well.

This election was not a mandate for anyone and may even bring in a new group of leaders whose focus is on solving fiscal problems. By 2016, the pressure will be to solve the really serious problems that threaten our survival. People will tire of Obama's social programs which fix nothing and only cost money.

Big Rob's predictions are probably right

The Retardlican party is getting ever more extreme

Romney was the most sane of the nominees and he's mentally ill.

Last time you were all jacking off over Sarah Palin

It's a party for right wing lunatic religious fundamentalists

Who ironically rant against their counterparts in the middle east.

People who talk seriously about legitimate rape and invent bodily functions like a shut down in fertility during rape

The surprise isn't that the retardlicans lost

It is that they got so many votes

Not a chance. The Rs will roll over and do Obama's bidding. You have it exactly backwards. Blaming the conservative wing of the party for this lose is absurd, but the Rs will do exactly that. They nominated a moderate who lost, but you blame conservatives. This is pure foolishness.

The Tea Party was not effective this time unlike 2010. The Rs recognize the TP lost it's influence and will dump them like an old newspaper. The liberal wing of the R party headed by the Bushs and other elite fools will take over. Plus the media will do a full court press to demonize the Rs in the House, if they fail to do approve Obama's agenda. And they will dutifully go along with Obama.

America will continue to be a Kleptocracy with lots of socialism and police state actions thrown in. But on the positive side, its not sustainable so the end is near.

I want to congratulate BigRob who is exactly the type of Republican that can save your party. He holds on to his conviction, but is willing to debate in an intelligent and balanced way, without throwing in all the propaganda that too many of you continue to believe in.

If the Republican survives, if the Republican party comes back to win the Presidency and even the Senate in 2016, it will be because of people like BigRog and Governor Christie.

Who said anything about a landslide or revenge? Revenge is Obama's word.

West hasn't conceded either. He says there was some hanky panky going on.

Our race is far from decided and there is no rush to declare an outcome. Ensuring a fair and accurate counting off all ballots is of the utmost importance. There are still tens of thousands of absentee ballots to be counted in Palm Beach County and potential provisional ballots across the district. Late last night Congressman West maintained a district wide lead of nearly 2000 votes until the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections “recounted” thousands of early ballots. Following that "recount" Congressman West trailed by 2,400 votes. In addition, there were numerous other disturbing irregularities reported at polls across St. Lucie County including the doors to polling places being locked when the polls closed in direct violation of Florida law, thereby preventing the public from witnessing the procedures used to tabulate results. The St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections office clearly ignored proper rules and procedures, and the scene at the Supervisor’s office last night could only be described as complete chaos. Given the hostility and demonstrated incompetence of the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections, we believe it is critical that a full hand recount of the ballots take place in St. Lucie County. We will continue to fight to ensure every vote is counted properly and fairly, and accordingly we will pursue all legal means necessary.

I guess Republicans just have a hard time believing that they can be defeated. . .it took Romney almost two hours to concede after the whole world knew that Obama had won.

And West is just a pawn, a no body really. . . just a big mouth.

But one thing is true. . .there is no hurry! ;)

That's racist.

Racist? What in my comment was racist?

I didn't say if he was a White or a Black pawn. . .and there are an even number of them in a chess game, don't you know?

I do believe he was manipulated by the Romney campaign to be the "mouth" of the tiny minority in the party, so that he could "attract" more Black people to the Republican cause. ..

But that is not why I think he is a nobody. . .I think he is just not very smart and not very honest, that's all. And I am certain that, even if he WAS used by the Republican party, his arrogance won't let him see that. He probably think that HE used the Republican party to differentiate himself from the rest of the Black people, and to make a name for himself.

He may even have hoped to be the next Black President in the White House! In fact, are you the one who mentioned his name as possible Republican candidate for 2016? I don't quite remember... maybe it was Pandora (suggesting either West or Rubio).

Now. . . that suggestion could have been taken as racist! After all, it was clearly with the intent to get the "minorities votes," by running "minority candidates."

Which, I admit is not a bad idea for a desperate party trying to find its way in this changing world. . .but it sure is more "race based" than my comment!
